DIY leather upholstery on plastic caps between the roll hoops

Hello everyone, just wanted to share the before and after,. The original leather had receded and cracked so I removed the leather piece from the plastic and proceeded to remove the old glue gunk left over. This took a lot of elbow grease but it worked. I purchased yard of some bmw specific black leather, contact cement and professional grade sissors and off I went. I'd give it a 7 of 10 and not bad for never done before. 😂

Bravo. Excellent work there. You’re under-selling it at 7/10

Looks terrific! On the subject of leather repair, I recently re-dyed some of the leather surfaces in my E39 M5 using Colourlock Leather Fresh Leather Colour Restorer. My M5 has the Caramel full leather interior, which is gorgeous but fairly delicate. Some of the high-wear areas such as the seat bolsters were showing wear, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Very easy to use, you just clean the leather then apply multiple light coats of the dye, using a hair dryer to speed the drying process between coats. The manufacturer (Lederzentrum) offers hundreds of OEM colors custom blended to match your OEM color. www.colourlock.com. No affiliation, just a satisfied user!

Looks good! Did you get the plastic piece out of the car? Does it just snap out? Or did you manage that repair directly in the car?

Hello, I removed it from the car. It snaps off very easily, but you'll need to move the chrome rings up before you do so, and moving those rings is a little tricky. You'll need to get good strong force to get them up.

Thanks for the info - Just pry the panel from the top and they fold right out. One of my panels is really dried out - now it is all set for a refurb.
