    Key fob question

My key was not remote locking/unlocking the car so I figured the key battery must be dying. I bought a new key but it didn't solve the issue. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has a suggested fix? Is there is some sort of "receiver" on the car that may be going bad, not picking up the key signal?

I assume you realize that there is a pairing procedure required for the car to recognize a new key fob...

Thank you, DinoZ8. I did not, but suspected that might be the case. The parts manager was of no help. I ASSume I need a tech for this and cannot do it myself? If there is a related thread, I eagerly request!

Mike, the E39 M5 (and probably all early 2000's BMWs) use the same diamond shape key fob as the Z8. If you do some searching of the M5Board website (https://www.m5board.com/forums/e39-m...-discussion.3/), you will find lots of information about pairing the key to the car, which is a DIY on the E39 so hopefully the Z8 as well. You might also discover some other helpful information such as where you can send a fob for battery replacement (not a DIY project). By the way, did you check the fuse that controls this function? Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the pairing procedure is in the Z8 owners manual. I have one key that operates the trunk, hood but another that doesn't, so I looked into what needed to be done with a new key fob (which is yet to be acquired).
