Supersprint Manifold, Sport Cats and Exhaust

I ordered this as soon as the car arrived. Looking forward to getting it on and releasing the V8 sound.

I will report back with sound clips and dyno data.

That looks beautifully made, are you going to do a marine ceramic coating before installing it?

Looks awesome. I am looking forward to your install and results. I ordered the Supersprint manifold last month...waiting for it to arrive. Also ordered the pipes that delete the center resonators. I am going to use the factory cats and existing Eisenmann rear exhaust on the car.

Is the marine ceramic coating recommended to minimize heat buildup?

Yes, plus it looks great and it protects the metal.

No plans to do this (and exhaust is already on the car). Its not something I've ever seen the benefit of proven especially considering the cost.

Wow, incredible video, and that system sounds amazing! If I lived in the UK, my car would be headed to your shop immediately.

Fantastic video...really enjoyed watching the install and dyno results. I think you are doing a great service to the Z8 platform by showing how these mods can really transform the car, even 20 years later, and changing its personality from boulevard cruiser to true M car. I'm still waiting for my Supersprint headers to arrive and will be in touch for the ECU tune once installed. Also hoping that an air intake system is still being developed by you all!

Thanks for the feedback guys. It really does sound incredible. Although this was done purely for sound the power gain is very noticeable. I haven't talked about the Bilstein MDS suspension much but I had a very good drive over this weekend and it has vastly improved the handling dynamics of the car. Really please with the way it has turned out.

Eventuri will also be developing an intake and carbon plenum cover for it. I will share details when I can. Lets see if we can get a nice induction roar too!

Any chance these will not set off a CEL or code for cats. I am in California, perfromance cats have been dicey. I would love to try this set up. But nervous I have to swap it out every 2 years. No one is really looking for EOD#s, but codes can be an issue. My C5 vette system never tossed a code and was not a problem. My C6 system, same mfg, would throw warm up codes, not ready stuff, it would not pass emissions.

My Supersprint headers and catback exhaust are supposed to arrive in January. Four month lead time, can’t wait. Looking forward to the Eventuri intake development by Imran too.

As reference I ordered the Supersprint headers and catback exhaust Aug 30 and am still waiting. Supposed to have shipped last week and the new shipping date has already been changed twice. The problem is the high flow cats. So don’t be surprised if it takes longer…

Shipping date for the Supersprint high flow cats has been delayed again until the end of February. So at best it will be six months from the order date, two months longer than initial estimate. Really annoying. I’m going to go ahead and install the headers and exhaust next week with the stock cats for the time being.

    Hi Imran.
Thank you for the video, super work!!.
I have installed my Supersprint exhaust system without header (not available in RHD configuraion) on my Alpina Z8 (RHD)
    Installed the following
Front pipes R+L with metallic catalytic converter
Centre pipe kit R + L (enhance the sound and reduce the back pressure)
    Rear exhausts 90 L & R.

So happy with the installation and it sounded so good.
My only problem is that the " Service Engine Light" is lighted on my tacho after the installation and we have checked everything on the exhaust piping for leaks, especially in the area of the catalytics
I have reset the error codes but after 50km+ of driving, error appears again. I was told due to high flow cat, post O2 sensors may not be reading correctly and perhaps would need ECU -Remapping and tuning?
Not sure whether you could point me the right direction.
    Thank you. Cheers Peter

Hi Peter, any drone with exhaust using the "Centre pipe kit R + L (enhance the sound and reduce the back pressure)" ? I have these pipes ready to install in the spring and was curious. Thanks!

There are 2 oxygen sensors before the catalytic converter, handle it with care when removed and do not drop it.
Cutting and fitting should be a straight forward replacement work ... just make sure all the pipes are fully aligned before welding up the connecting joints and it should be fully sealed and no leak.
Hope this helps and good luck.

My high flow cats finally shipped today after a 6 month wait. Will get on my shop’s schedule in the next couple of weeks for the install of the headers, high flow cats and catback exhaust. I’m also having the primary O2 sensors replaced given the age and mileage. Then the dyno tune to maximize the hp gains and eliminate the possibility of a CEL from the high flow cats. Can’t wait!

Finally was able to get the Supersprint headers and catback exhaust installed and put about 40 miles on it today. Really happy with how it turned out - fantastic build quality, fit perfectly and the sound!!! Incredible, what a V8 should sound like. No drone, quiet at cruising speeds but when you get on the throttle you will be grinning ear to ear. Imran’s video above does a great job of showing the improvement over stock. We put an initial tune on it to deal with the CEL from the high flow cats and will be customizing the tune when we get it on a dyno in a couple of weeks. Also took the opportunity to replace the engine mounts and primary O2 sensors with the exhaust off. Highly recommended mod. Couple of pics below…

Does anyone else here want to opine on what other upgrades/maintenance I might want to think about while I'm taking care of the suspension and the headers/exhaust? You guys are way more knowledgable than I am.

One thing I recently did that made a noticeable difference was to install new mass airflow sensors. The sensors degrade over time and our engines don’t run well with degraded MAFS. After the change my engine idled more smoothly and had a noticeable power increase. These sensors can be removed and cleaned but at 20 yrs old now I elected to install new ones.

Did you replace those with BMW parts or is there aftermarket source?

I used BMW OEM. Not cheap, $570 apiece. As an aside I called Dinan about the high flow MAFS they used to sell and they confirmed that they are no longer available.

    Less expensive here

Here are OEM ones at discount http://https://www.getbmwparts.com/o...or-13621433566. My local BMW dealer also extends a 20% discount on all parts for BMWCCA members and of course there is no shipping charges either. Worth the annual membership just for that! And they do it for direct purchases and for installs they perform. I just have to remind them every time. 10% off labor as well.

I'm told there are no OEM ones available in the US and ordering from Germany takes 4-6 weeks minimum. These ones from Bosch are less than half the price and available immediately. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bosch-pa...621433566~bos/

That doesn’t make sense to me. I am pretty sure that the E39 M5 MAF is the exact same as the Z8 part (both cars share the S62 engine) and those are plentiful. The cheaper Bosch part sold by ECS, Turner etc. might work fine, I elected to go with the OEM part from the dealer.
