I received my 6000 mile Z8 on Tues.
I have found a few very small issues:
The ashtray doesn’t stay locked in place-when the cover is opened it rises slowly
Obviously no big deal-never smoked
I plan to leave the hardtop on-one of the plastic side covers won’t stay in place
Any thoughts would be appreciated

REALOEM has a nice website for Z8 parts. I plan to call my dealer today and order a new plastic hardtop mount cover and the receptacle part. I remember in 2008 when I briefly owned an 800 mile Topaz/crema Z8 that the silly gear mechanism of the ashtray often broke. I don’t remember the fix for that but not important enough to worry about it.
Shop around for parts...BMW dealers are notorious for price gouging. My go-to site is mybimmerparts.com, although they've eliminated their free-shipping-for-orders-over-$99 policy...now the threshold is $299.

Drove the car for the first time earlier today. Just spectacular!!
The ashtray has a hook on the bottom that clicks the ashtray into place. The catch is released by the button next to the ashtray. If the hook breaks off the bottom of the ashtray - well, then it floats. The ashtray ran $70+ a couple of years ago.
can you send me a pic of the hook when convenient.
It does have a notched hook that fits into the small gear. It just doesn’t lock down.

Ashtray had two issues. The plastic tail latch was broken and the latch itself was not functioning properly. Bought a new ashtray and repaired the latch. All is good!!
