A little hi-jacking here, I am new to the Z8s, but can you tell me why did Alpina choose to use a different engine? An acquaintance of mine just sold his Z8 and when asked why did he sell, he responding saying he didn't like the gear box. "You have to shift before you get through the intersection".
On the Alpina, they wanted to make an automatic with more of a relaxed feel, so that required completely different powertrain.
The S62 M engine, which makes a ton of power higher up the rev range, isn't a torque monster and also wasn't a natural pairing with any of the suitable auto boxes available back then, so they used a motor that they were already familiar with to achieve their goal.
No idea what your acquaintance meant by "You have to shift before you get through the intersection." I did over 50,000 miles in 4 Z8's and never had an issue with that powertrain, in fact quite the opposite, I found it delightful and very giggly!

Good to know.
The next car sold was also an '03 black/black with 19,000 more miles but in a manual with a better engine. It sold for $219,000 less. With those savings the buyer can get another one in a different color.
Well once I get the funds from my P car, the Alpina will be one of three vehicles on my shopping list. If anyone of those three surpass the $250 - 255 budget, the list will get shortened.
