Misc cosmetic parts

Hi,I did a complete service and detail of the Z8 this weekend and need to replace a few misc cosmetic parts. Does anyone have a particular place they have used for such parts, or have any lying around they wish to sell. These are the ones:- Steering wheel center hub- Parking break cover- Shift knob- Engine firewall passenger side baffle- Driver's side brushed metal sill- trunk lid gas shocksPics attached.PM me if you have any of these (new) and wish to sell them.Thanks!Patrick

The best source of OEM parts in my mind is https://www.getbmwparts.com/ I have used them for multiple times and they have always been fantastic. It is interesting that what is on your list has pretty much been on my list as well and I have sourced everything from them. Excellent, very timely customer service as well - I believe it is a part of the BMW of Silver Springs operation.

There is somewhere here a thread on refinishing the scratched door sills with very fine steel wool which I actually followed with excellent results. Could not find it - I'll continue looking and will post a link if I can locate it.

The steering wheel hub is not a separate trim piece that could be purchased (to the best of my knowledge) as it is part of the total steering wheel assembly. I had mine painted by a custom paint job as it was nicked (from previous owner) and it came out great!

Here is a website that compares prices from different vendors. http://www.bmwpnpc.com/ BMW of Morristown is often a good source for parts. FCP Euro guarantees all parts for life. The stainless steel door sills can be refinished as Skip stated. I did this on my sills with good results. As I recall, you use a 300 or 400 grit sandpaper, trying to travel along the length of the sill consistent with the lines of the existing brushed finish. I lightly screwed my sills to a wooden sawhorse to keep it stable.Prior to successfully refinishing my original sills, I purchased a set of NOS sills which I still have. If you decide against trying to refinish them, I would be consider selling them if you have an interest. Incidentally, after replacing my shift knob and handbrake cover I now make it my practice to remove a ring I wear on my right hand. The finish on those parts is very soft, and as you are about to learn they are quite expensive.

Thanks so much, guys! For the sill covers - I have thought the same thing and considered just bringing them in to a metal shop. Having said that, I will try the approach you suggested.

BMW of South Atlanta parts has done a good job for me. Online ordering and good communication - a human actually reviews the order.

My dealer will also match the on line pricing. If you have some work scheduled for your car requiring parts, ask for the part numbers, get the prices and send the service manager an e-mail with links asking them if they will match the pricing. I am having a few minor things fixed on my car this week and I saved $300 by just asking the questions ($400 vs. $700). Most dealers also offer a 10% BMCCA discount if you are a member, but why not ask them to match on-line prices - my dealer was just fine with it.

My dealer has actually been great so far and I did email him. Their prices are same or better than online (I am in Canada so most of these sites are not ideal since crossing the border adds duty). This is from BMW of South Atlanta, who says:

"We do apologize, but our policy here is that we do not order parts if the Germany warehouse has not given an ETA since this could take months or even years and we do not want to hold up your money for that long. We apologize for the confusion, but at this time we are giving you a full refund and cancelling the order. You are welcome to check back with us in a couple months to see if Germany has given an ETA or gotten these in stock."
