    Z8 for sale

I have a 2001 Z8. Black - red. Hard top. I bought it in 2002.I've owned it since then. Recently the engine blew. Waiting for a new one which won't come until February 2019. The car is in excellent condition. New clutch and Sirius radio installed. Once ready I want to sell. Price to be negotiable. At least $90-100k.Please contact me if interested. 425-531-1430Vin

Can you share a little more anout the engine issue. How many miles on the car - what actually “blew” and under what conditions?

Maybe now we have an approximate lifespan of the engine.
    2000 Red over black
heavily modified for performance. Although, not to the level of GM's car

Looking quickly at the BMW E39 M5/Z8 board https://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e3...z8-discussion/ there are cars above 250K miles. It would be interesting to post a poll over there to see where people are with this engine with their M5's which will have much more high mileage samples than our Z8's. I might do that...

Curious as well...170k miles might be a lot for some cars, but I'd expect more from that M5 engine.

Plenty of S62 motors with 200k+ miles and some with 300k+ on the M5 board. Probably the one thing that bears watching are the rod bearings, which can start to fail at the 150k mark. If I had a car that was pushing up into those kind of miles, I would recommend sending out oil samples to Blackstone Labs, which analyzes the contaminates found in your used motor oil and can predict possible problem areas. Rod bearings are a relatively manageable issue cost-wise if detected before grenading the engine.

At that kind of mileage I'd look to swapping out the engine (and much of drivetrain) with a blue printed Dinan unit. The S62 is easily a 200k motor, but for sure you're into the 'trouble zone' at those miles.

Add mine to the list of names recommending Blackstone Labs. I sent another oil sample to them at just under 130,000 miles, and they assure me that Nancy Drew should be good to go for the nonce. (And thank you, Liqui-Moly 10-60!)
