The red crema one was nice and especially the video of the dry ice detailing. It is amazing what that process can accomplish. I had it done to a Porsche and the underside looked new

BaT has an OEM silver/black hardtop for sale now. I thought someone was looking for one not too long ago. The headliner looks quite perfect as well. Someone did point out handprints (indentments) in it stating that it is a sign of the liner starting to loose it's structure.

Great auction today - I just love the Topaz/Crema! Not sure if I like the cream top or the black with this or not. Leaning towards the cream….

I inspected this car for it's sale to this owner and helped broker the deal, it's an absolute gem, and here's its original for sale post...

Andrew - small (Z8) world. Your PPI notes are in the picture gallery. What a beautiful car and looks like it has pretty much just been sitting in a collection judging from the mileage between the sales. The winner has bought three z8’s (two other Topaz/Crema) last year and a couple of other ones before that along with several other cars. Maybe a broker even though he only has three sales on BaT.

WOW -
I would not be surprised if this one will go nowhere. Poor photography, dirty car, and many details showing neglect/lack of care. 61K miles which makes it also one of the higher mileage ones seen on BaT (who am I to say with my 112K miles...).

It looks like flood damage in the trunk, I'd definitely want to see full documentation and history.

The zip ties on that front license plate really make it "special"...
Agree, looks like it’s been ridden hard and hung up wet.

Well… It ended up selling for $164K (+$5K fee). Hopefully the buyer will give it some love a d end up with a great driver not having to worry about miles.

Absolutely gorgeous. It would be the perfect stablemate for my Carbon Black over caramel E39 M5!
Here is what Andrew said about the Midnight blue color combination a few weeks ago:
"Oddly enough it's a combo I was very excited to see and photograph, but honestly in person it was not that attractive, the interior was too bright and orange, and the blue too dark and close to black to really be different."
Phil
I stand by my original comments, it was a combo I'd been really excited to see in person, but honestly, it was a bit of a disappointment, here are a few pix of the sister car in full sun back in 2008....

I would say, the blue is a little too deep, and the leather is very bright/orange in person…
Sold for $410k including buyer’s premium, great result.

I'd say it's a definite case of rarity over beauty, as those 4 or 5 Canadian cars are kind of unicorns in our Z8 world, as are the 5 or 6 Alpina Blue and Cream cars that were also imported into Canada with similar AH6xxxx VINs.

So now my buddy in Netherlands owns half of the midnight blue Arizona Sun cars. I was kind of surprised to see him buy this one as he said he likes each of his Z8's to be different than any of his other Z8's. I guess he made an exception. I was texting him this morning before the auction close but wasn't watching the auction. I bet him 20 euro it would go to over 400K. He wouldn't take the bet. Apparently that's because he knew he was going to be the guy bidding over 400K
He's definitely living his best life over there.

I've never seen or heard of an "Alpina Blue" Z8.
How different is that to Topaz Blue?
BigGar - you imply he has other ones as well. Big Z8 collection?

He bought Evie's car a few year ago. I think she was a member here. It was one of the four built, and now this one yesterday. He's got the largest Z8 collection in Europe, with a few other very cool cars thrown in too, including a 507.
There was a comment on the BAT auction thread from someone that was going to wrap their Z8 in a similar color... Hope we get to see that here.
Here's a shot of a Topaz car (foreground) with Alpina Blue car #555 from our first Z8 tour over the Alps to the Villa D'Este. It was owned and being driven a member of the Alpina family back then, but I believe has now been sold on. It was a much richer and more metallic blue that really emphasized the cars lines unlike the rather flat Topaz.

That Alpina Blue is incredible.
Was it exclusive to the Alpina Z8's or was it a part of "BMW Individual".
It's obviously a super rare color!
By memory they made 105 for the EU market and the Alpina Blue was the signature color, but they also sold the EU Alpinas in the full range of Z8 colors too, so at a guess there's maybe 15-20 in Alpina Blue. Again by my unreliable memory, the same gent at BMW Canada, Manfred, who ordered the 4 or 5 Midnight Blue Z8's also ordered 5 or 6 Alpina Blue Alpinas for the Canadian market. I did an inspection on 61993 dozen or so years back, which was being sold in Irvine, but it was in a pretty sad state with quite high miles. Not sure what happened to it as I couldn't recommend it to my buyer.
Here's a link to the launch images they used for press, that were taken on the road along Lake Garda in northern Italy, where we went with the Z8 Club to watch the start of the Mille Miglia.

Greatness.
What a time you all must have had.
The four Z8 Club trips to Europe and the big drives we did here, especially ‘Meet in the Middle’ in Santa Fe and the ‘Volcano Tour’ from Portland down to Monterey were truly the drives of my life, and the Z8 will always be the car of life because of the community, adventures and joy it brought, it was so much more than just a car.

Soon for sale on BAT:
He's not very well informed, and the amount of rust on the discs in the initial shots doesn't bode well for the way the car has been kept, it's also worrying he had to cryo-blast the underside.
