That was indeed a DE car, it's being sold by a dealer in BC, who probably has no idea.

I'm the first registered owner of 0024, with the assistance of another member of the forum that had connections within BMW he was able to confirm that my car was originally a "press" car, then loaned to a BMW executive before it was offered for sale through a southern California BMW dealership...the car was never one of the "Experience" cars.
I posted a link to one of the discussions on here regarding the early VIN cars on the listing, so the bidders should/could have been informed purchasers. Went for over 170k with fees and duty.
I saw your link and was surprised it wasn't discussed further.

I thought someone on this thread expressed interest in the car that was sold last week on BaT. I came across this one this morning and thought the asking price (from a dealer that typically is high) was quite reasonable for a black/crema with low miles. Not sure what all original equipment they have and it does not have PP, but looks very nice ib the pictures and would be worth while for someone looking to take a closer look.

At this point, 15 years out of warranty, why would a Euro be worth any less?

One might make the argument a European version could be worth more due to the ease of exporting them back to Europe where values are higher.
That's very true, and I think it was a very fair price for the car, though more than I thought it would bring.

Interestingly the bidder has zero comments or bids for Ny other vehicles. Maybe it’s going back to Europe.

I agree with both of you! Great price... could be heading home. Edit: great price for seller. Must have been good for buyer too.
If the buyer wants to bring the car back to Europe, it would cost him about 40% in import duties, VAT, insurance, etc. So it’s not really interesting. You can find a Euro car for much less in Europe now.

I grew up in Johnstown, PA (Westmont suburb) and our next door neighbor owned a red one of these. That was in about 1963 and I was in high school. The neighbor was a Dr. Ayers; he was a pathologist at the hospital downtown. In the morning he would pull out of his garage and backup the Ferrari with the exhaust pointing right a my second floor bedroom window. Someone had told him to warm up the engine for several minutes before proceeding out. How I remember the sound of that V12 humming at about 2500 rpm! As he left his house I could hear him go through the gears as he pulled away from the stop signs he encountered leaving the area.
Memories....
Phil
The distinctly mechanical sound of an older Ferrari V12 running up through the gears is just fantastic!
Beautiful car, what a joy to see it so lovingly restored.

Skip you shouldn’t have mentioned the miles as this one was getting close to the auction end! I dunno what people are thinking. This is a solid car with a lot of expensive work done since the last sale.
Regardless, the high bid was lower than what it sold for last year. Only one data point but a data point nonetheless. If it was silver I would have been all over it.
@MauiMike - I don’t really need any lecturing from you. I made no negative comments about the car or the mileage other than stating that the car had more miles than what typically has been seen on BaT. Also specifically stated “this will be a fantastic driver for someone to truly enjoy the car...”. If you would like to discuss this further, please PM or e-mail me as opposed to attack or lecture me here.

I was watching - thought it stalled out right at the same time you did. That was two guys after a low mileage Z8.
The z8 prices are creeping up slowly, which is not surprising considering the endless supply of cheap money. This is I guess good news for those who own one and also a signal to everyone who is on the sideline to jump in and buy one if they've been waiting for the right time, IMO of course.
I followed this and while pleased it went so high, I wonder if the "celebrity" affiliation (Christie Brinkley's former husband) could account for some of the premium? Seems like a stretch, but otherwise how do you explain what amounted to a $30-40k bump over the market for a silver/red car with accident history? If you read the post-sale comments, this same car was offered for sale in July for $160k. The seller must be ecstatic with the outcome.
Two buyers wanting the same car at the same time I guess. I wondered about the celebrity thing but the owner is more famous for blowing it than his accomplishments.

Red is such a delicious color on the Z8. Hopefully this will bring top dollars to the seller and endless happiness to a lucky buyer.
The red/crema on carsandbids went for $185k after 49 bids. Lots of comments/interest.
What a deal for the lucky buyer. I'm equally impressed with Doug's site. He has build a nice market place. He knows how to monetize his social presence. Good for him!
It's not such a good deal for the buyer if you compare it to this red/crema with a lower mileage that's been up for sale since March 2020: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...6167/overview/
@vzben - Not sure why you say that??? Prices are very close (the auction premium was $4,500) and mileage not that much difference "at the end of the day". Furthermore, the one that sold in the auction was owned by a member of this board who has been I am sure a great caretaker of the car. Sad to see Mollyshark go!

I suspect there was a premium paid as a result of the excitement generated by the auction format. Two or more people who get caught up in the energy of the moment and perhaps pay more than they had planned. Having said that, it was a great car in great colors from a great consignor.

Great bidding war today for the one above. $200K + $5K fee. The car seems very high quality and I hope we will see the new owner here soon. The BaT auctions are great to watch live - if you never have done that try it. Great entertainment when there is a bidding competition as there was today. The seller bought this car on BaT in March of 2019 for $191K including the fee so he ended up ok. Did not deive much at all if any as both times the car was advertised as a "12K mile" car. Too bad. Maybe if he drove it more he would have kept !!!

I drove out to see that Z8 yesterday afternoon. Nice guy shows me the car. Poor car was roasting in the sun and covered in dust. Had the stock (rusty/ugly....sorry!) brake calipers. Paint was good not a mirror though. In photos I loved the wheels in person not so much. I also learned those wheels are notably heavy...heavier than the Alpina wheels. Car rode really hard and thumps went through those 21" wheels/tires rather harshly. I am picky so I'd say it was a 7-8 condition car at best. Seeing the car in the real world hammered home my love for the always looks clean silver, the grey versus black dash (which looked like a landing pad for all dust in Southern California) and why you do not go for 21" wheels and why you do go for the Alpina suspension. Now, based on that sale, my pristine, Brembo equipped, Alpina Wheel wearing, short shift kit, LSD, light weight flywheel, full Dinan S2 (carbon trumpets, air filter boxes, headers, tune) H&R sway bars, etc etc. can be had for $300k.![]()

Hi all, just registered here, as I am thinking of bidding on this particular lot. I've done a little research on my own but would really appreciate some insight/input from this group. I'm looking for a Z8 to drive, so I'd like whatever I purchase to be as mechanically sound as possible. The seller hasn't responded to my direct messages yet, but in the meantime it would be great to get your thoughts on what it might take to bring this one up to speed. From the auction description, I figure at a minimum, it will need the Performance Package (assuming there's no damage already), replacement of the faulty turn signal, and repair/probably replacement of the soft top. I know the general cost for the performance package and turn signal, but has anyone here had to deal with soft top issues? Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions!
I replaced the top on my car a few years ago. Before going ahead with the job, I had heard of people being quoted $12-15K for a new top from the BMW dealership. However, I was able to purchase an OEM canvas top and window from a vendor in the Netherlands, complete with BMW logos embossed in the plastic window, for about $1700. I then had it installed by a auto upholstery/convertible top shop local to me who did a great job for about $1400.00, so all in it cost me a little over $3k. However, the top on the BAT car does not appear to have holes in the fabric, the problem I see is the welting around the rear window has slipped out of the moulding. This is a common problem with these tops, and with luck you might be able to repair it yourself for the cost of a tube of 3M Black Weatherstrip adhesive. Also figure about $3k for the Performance package and installation, and about $3k for a new taillight (about $2k for the unit, plus the labor to install, which requires dropping the rear bumper cover). The cost to repair the failing rear view mirror is about $110 plus shipping, I have used Radar-Mirror in Texas who will turn the mirror around in about a week. So worst case for the items identified above, figure about $10k. These are great cars, don't be scared off by the repairs, just factor them into your maximum bid. Good luck!
I just fixed a mirror with the exact same appearance as the one in the BAT auction. Around $100 bucks through Radar Mirror and a week turn around time. Instructions for un-installing/installing the mirror are on this site.
Thanks for the replies to my questions regarding the black/red car in yesterday's BaT auction. It only sold for $1k more than my originally intended top bid, but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with the winner after seeing his previous bids on another Z8. The winner commented at the end that s/he already had a lower-mile topaz/cream to preserve and bought the black/red to drive. Someone here by any chance?
Anyone familiar with this car? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...ontact=contact
Edit: Did a little sleuthing on this forum. Is this Mollyshark's car? Did the sale from the previous auction fall through? If so, please PM me.
