Juan, a good source for BMW part numbers is Realoem.com. You enter the last seven letters/digits of your VIN to select the model of car and then move about within categories of parts to find what you need. I have found BMWpartsupply.com to offer good service and excellent prices, but there are a number of other suppliers which list members have used with good results.

    Welcome to the Z8 forum!

Can someone tell if the original soft top window protector said "Z8" or "BMW" on it? Mine says "BMW" and I am just curious as I seem to remember seeing somewhere one with "Z8". This is what mine looks like:

Mine says BMW. As Karsten said, NLA from BMW. However, I believe the Z3 came with a similar protector, the difference between the Z8 unit and the Z3 unit being the length of the elastic straps that hook onto the roof at the side windows.

Follow up to my post above. I have two protective covers. I bought one of the Z3 ones (which came in a black plastic pouch also pictured) when I replaced my rear window some years ago. I bought that one not remembering that there was one in the trunk below the trunk floor cover in the small storage compartment - have I remembered and used it, I may have not had to replace the window that was worn and cloudy. Lesson learned. it is now being used religiously. Placing the two covers on top of each other as in the first picture, they are the same size, the only difference being the lenght of the strap confirming Boomster's comment.

Does the window protector on the Z8 do a lot? On my old Z3M it would help prevent an unsightly crease in the window so I used it often. I don't see the same crease on Z8s.

I am sure it protects the window from rubbing against itself at the minimum. I also always use the "tomahawk chop" when installing the protector to make sure that the window folds cleanly without any creases or sharp edges. My old (now replaced window) developed a cloudy area in the middle where it folds. Like I sated above, I am now using it religiously. I would strongly recommend using it always.

Every time I put down the top on my Porsche Turbo cab, I’m reminded just how frikkin cumbersome it is to put the top down on the Z8 with window protectors and manual cover. My P has a glass rear window; this is where BMW really “cheaped” on an otherwise exemplary quality.

macfly; In the International club information they have an item listed that you have omitted. They list a BMW Z8 model car. (kyosho, size 1:18), in the same color combination as your vehicle. This was mailed several weeks after the vehicle was delivered. Was this just a European item or was it done in America as well? I don't see any models in the pictures of Z8'z sold on Bat. Did they make a red/crema model? I have seen red/black. What actually came with the car when you accepted delivery? What was mailed to the original buyer, after delivery? What were the accessories you could buy?

My U.S. Z8 came with the model car in the same color combo.

I bought 4 Z8's and never got a model with any of them, but some lucky owners did - it seemed a random thing in the US. I am not sure about a Red/Crema model, I believe all the models shown here were the ones made available, but I'm not 100% sure.

There were no options or accessories, the car came with everything, and that was it.

In fact it was a Germany only item. Dan got his model because it was delivered in Munich

Satch Carlson's (wife's) car Buffy that is currently on sale on BaT contains a picture (#145) that made me ask Satch what the item laying on the floor in the picture was. The picture and his response are below. I did not want to start a side conversation on BaT, but can some one here (Satch if you are reading) elaborate if these items came with the car. I am sure I have never seen them or heard/seen anybody ever refer to them. Is it something that was protecting the car originally when being transported to the dealers?

They're mechanics aprons that were generally only supplied to dealers, but Satch obviously managed to get his mitts on a set. That's such a great car, I hope it goes to an owner who appreciates what it is.

Did all Z8's come with a wheel lock adapter and if so, where was it stored (eg, in toolkit bag, or elsewhere)? The Z8 I bought seems to lack an adapter and from realoem.com it appears there were numerous different ones available. So if mine is missing, I'm hoping the local BMW dealer will be able to easily identify which one I need.

I think so, the threads are all the same, so I think it's a pretty easy part to get and sub.

When you wrote "wheel lock adapter", are you speaking about locking lug nuts? If so, my car did not come with locking lug nuts and I don't believe they came as standard equipment on the Z8. BMW offered accessory locking lug nuts which came with a special adapter to install and remove the nuts, perhaps that is what you are referencing?

Ah, perhaps my Z8 didn’t come with a locking lug nut on each wheel…and thus no adapter. I had assumed that a locking lug nut per wheel was the default. The seller had turned the car upside down trying to find the adapter.
