Soft top seperating from rear window?

    Hi guys,

Anyone got any suggestions to fix this problem - don't want to replace whole top if possible considering it would most likely run $50 000!

Last time car was serviced, dealer tucked it back in free of charge and it has popped back out as they predicted it would.

This is well known issue and an easy fix for any good car fabric-leather-upholtry shop. Mybe reach out to Christian (ZAchterbahn) as he's in Texas and may have some good resources for this.

Correct. And you should know this often occurs because the top is left down for extended periods of time (anything over 48 hours would qualify!!). The top is designed to be kept under tension. When it is not, like when its down, it will actually (ever so slightly) shrink. When you put it back up you will find it will tear. I know this because I learned it the hard way. I had this happen to me years ago when I left the top down for a few weeks because we had such nice weather. Fortunately the dealer had it fixed under good will. I don't remember what it would have cost but it wound not have been close to 50k.

    Thanks Jerry.

Do you by any chance know if the dealership did anything in particular or was it just a stitch job?

The dealer / BMW NA (this is circa 2005) ordered a new exterior top layer and then had a local soft top specialist install it. Our top is a 2 layer top. This tear is usually on the outside layer.

It's an easy fix that any upholstery shop should be able to do. I've done it myself on a number of Z8s with lasting results. 3M super weatherstrip adhesive (black) is your friend.
