    Eclipse photography

Did anyone else get some photos of the eclipse? Astrophotography is technically very demanding, but I just winged it yesterday. Thanks to the cloud cover bringing down the dynamic range some, I was able to do a direct shot & include surrounding features.

This was taken at 6h28, about 10 minutes before maximum eclipse. A minute or 2 before max, the cloud cover finally closed in, and the show was over.

Used my Nikon D700 on 'cloudy' WB for a bit of color, and LR to bring out some detail in the trees.

And since there are some classic rock lovers here:

    All that you touch
    All that you see
    All that you taste
    All you feel
    All that you love
    All that you hate
    All you distrust
    All you save
    All that you give
    All that you deal
    All that you buy
    beg, borrow or steal
    All you create
    All you destroy
    All that you do
    All that you say
    All that you eat
    everyone you meet
    All that you slight
    everyone you fight
    All that is now
    All that is gone
    All that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon

Great shot! We ended up being stuck in traffic on the 101 on the way back from the Central Coast and missed the whole affair.

Very nice, I was out in the park with the pups and totally forgot about it!

It's amazing how bright the sun was even with 85% of it's face covered, but the iPhone was not the implement to catch it with! I did snap this shadow formation right on the max at around 6.30pm, but that's it for my photos on this! :-)

Lisa and I were in Fiji last week, although these aren't eclipse photos, they are quite nice

I used iso 6400 with noise reduction enabled, but these are still quite noisy. This was my first time doing this stuff, and my impatience got the better of me

This is a very clear sky with the full milky way, except for the clouds at the bottom that were throwing lightning around every 60 seconds or so (the iso 6400 allowed 40-50 second exposure)

That's cool, I love the lightening, kind of looks like a nebula. I'm a subscriber to Sky & Telescope, it's a great mag full of insane images of the sky. I've never even attempted to try astrophotography because it so technical and labor intensive, but I love looking at the images of outer space, it is such a wondrous universe we live in!

Beautiful, Tom. Astrophotography is very fiddly, and typical camera sensors aren't really optimized for stuff like this. So, you did a great job!
