You can carve the bulk off with a razor or scalpel.

Orange solvent, made from.....wait for it.......Orange peel oil, will clean up butyl with light rubbing.

When you apply butyl, you can dip...

The black caulking appears to be a semi-rigid butyl.

Any excess can be carefully carved with a razor and the excess rubbed away with a orange solvent towelette.

I received the initial test assembly back weeks ago and the sealant on the medial edge was a concern for me as well. After discussing it with Sean I hoped to have it not visible.
