I am new to the forum, I own a Z8 Alpina 162/555 The car is
in excellent condition with the exception of the the valve covers
that are experiencing a lot of pitting and corrosion and whilst
entirely cosmetic this detracts from a such beautiful automobile
especially as I want to show the car

Can anyone advise if they have this problem and if it was
fixed by BMW under warranty

Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,

I would try removing the corrosion with a piece of wet n dry, or a soft scourer. Then give it a coating of WD40, I use it on most of my engines, it seems to keep all oxidisation at bay.

Good luck

Roy.

I also had a similar Valve cover rib corrosion problem on my Z8 I purchased from the Florida coast. The solution was to sand the rib face. As the corrosion was heavy, I started with a 120 grit and worked to a 400 grit paper. I have yet to check an uncorroded engine to determine if the final finish is correct. Other areas of corrosion I've noted is the differential housing. and rusting on the seat frame when I repaired the seat back shell.
