These are the official instructions and illustrations for repairing the seal between the fabric and the plastic of the rear window panel. It is recommended that you use the original adhesive, which is available at most BMW dealers. It's called 'Terokal' and the part number is: 83190153050

I am picking my car up from Desert BMW after a soft top repair for the window surround. I will keep everyone updated if it lasts.

on the repair as well, as this is likely to be an endlessly ongoing situation.

Curious to know if anyone that has had a repair made to the soft top window surround has had permanent success. Mine was repaired about 18 months ago and I just noticed that it is separating once again around the top center of the window, same spot as last time.

I don't know of any that have been permanently fixed, they all seem to come apart again at some point because the rubber 'cover' seems to be about 1/2" too shallow to really hold the fabric in place long term, however I think that a really good fixing should hold it there for a few years.

Mine has been repaired by my dealer about 3 years ago. So far no problems since
I replaced mine 4 years ago and no problems since then.
What is the problem? Is the zipper or the stiching holding the zipper coming apart?

Zipper and stitching are fine. The material pulls loose from underneath the rubber strip. I can push it back in but it does not stay and just pops out again. This occurs on a roughly one foot section right in the middle on the top of the window. I think that the description of the rubber rim being too narrow is spot on as to the real source of the problem. If it was 1/4 inch wider I do not believe that there would be any issue at all. Guess I will bring it in the next time I have it serviced to have it reglued one more time.
