The posts that lock into the car, when installed, are the pivot points on which the hardtop rests on the rack. That is why the instructions for spacing of the uprights says it is critical. Too far the points will not rest on the bracket, too close and you have the top itself in the way.

Thanks for answering my first question as a registered member of your group before I could even ask it. They delivered my car to the house with the hard top in place and failed to include the instructions on how to mount it on the trolly. Just want to add that I've found your site to be a wonderful resource in trying to learn more about this amazing car...Thanks again.

Reading these posts caused me to wonder whether the trolley was an item that came with the car. If so, mine remained behind with a previous owner.
