Shock tower question

I joined the board to learn about these wonderful cars before I buy one, hopefully in the near future. One of the cars I was looking at has a black washer on the top of the shock towers that is not on the other cars I have seen. I have attached a picture. Does this mean this car has a problem or is it a preventative measure to avoid problems in the future?

Nevermind. I didn't notice the brace before, this car has the performance package installed correct?

Yes. And that's a good thing.

I would pic a car with the performance package over one without, because the very fact the owner has taken the trouble to know it needed one shows he is a more diligent enthusiast, and that will mean that his car will have been more cared for.
