The company that makes the OE batteries used by BMW also sells them to a U.S. chain called BatteriesPlus and their outlets are showing up in more and more towns across the country. The brand name on the battery is "Werker" and the Z8 takes a Group 49. I have been told that these same batteries are also available under the DEKA and EAST PENN brand names but cannot confirm this.

I grew up in the Motor City during the '60s and '70s and I used to build race cars for a living so I think I have Castrol in my veins. Currently, I have a collection of '60s vintage sports cars I am restoring which means I'm always scrounging for parts and when you add in the Z8 obsession, I guess I spend an inordinate amount of my time immersed in the world of automobiles.

And we are all benefitting from that. Thanks Bruce. Although we can get lighter batteries, I've always just stuck with the OEM battery for simplicity and also for weight distribution.
