I'm helping a friend to sell this beautiful Alpina. It is in absolutely perfect condition, and in a few weeks will go to BaT, but if anyone here knows of someone looking for one of these please point them this way.

That seems like a super great deal.
Did they make Alpinas in 2002? I thought they were all 2003's.
Yes, there were both '02 & '03 Alpinas

Learn something every day!!! I thought all Alpinas were 2003. I guess because they were the last 555 made and there were 2003 Z8’s I assumed all Alpinas had to be 2003. Well, we do know what happens when you assume….

So does this mean that the Alpinas were in fact not the last 555 cars produced?
I would assume not. I recall they were concurrent. Might have been a good ploy to have done it that way as a swan song.
I'm guessing that's the US run, and the 105 car EU run was mixed in with it. Here's an image of the cars getting shipped to Alpina, they went one car transporter a time as Alpina is a smaller operation, so the rolling chassis were delivered there as needed. That's also why the Alpina VIN's were woven in with the Z8's starting from the summer of '02, which I guess technically makes them US '03 model year cars, but they were manufactured in '02. (The first Z8/Alpina made in '03 was AH62234)

So my AH62197 Alpina is actually a 2002, yet all documents say 2003?
Tom
According to our records, and probably the VIN sticker in your door too, the date of manufacture will be in the autumn/winter of '02.

This is a little confusing to me. Maybe because the manufacturing date does not necessarily correspond to the model year in the US. For example, my Porsche Targa was manufactured in 2014, but is a 2015 model and registered as such. So maybe the Alpinas manufactured in 2002 are registered in the US as 2003? I do believe in most European countries the manufacturing date is the year the cars are referred to.

I owned a ‘66 Shelby GT350 that was a carry over from ‘65. This was due to lack of sales in ‘65 though…
So is the above Alpina 62080 registered as a 2002 or 2003?

The German car manufacturers have a summer closure in August. In that time there is maintenance and building the production lines for the new models. As of September of the current year the production is labelled as the next year. Your car was produced 28/11/2002 so it is model year 2003.

This is all so confusing. So you're saying there was a single Alpina of the 555 produced as a 2001 model? It must be number 001 then. Always thought all 555 were produced as 2003 models between August - Septemer of 2002 to the end of production of all Z8's in 2003. Learn something new every day!
The first Alpina with VIN AF79289 was produced in June 8 2001. Number two was produced in March 2002 and the first US car was produced in may 2002 (AH 61804)

Is this still for sale?
Yes, it is, about to go to BaT, but if there's serious interest this week then a sale could be done before.

I can’t Pm you as I’m new on here - I own a Manual Z8 - can you PM me ?
Done, I sent you my cell, but can you text me your number first, as I only allow calls to come through from folks in my address book, as I got swamped with sales calls over the last 18 months, hence now needing to enter everyone into my phone first!
