    performance package now??, November 2021

Hello all, I am new to the board.
I just recently acquired my first Z8, a 2000 red/red sport 28K miles. It does not have the performance package installed. I was planning on having it installed. Is this still the predominate conventional wisdom?
I understand that the original "package" part #: 51 71 0 420 758 is no longer available from BMW.
    My local BMW dealer, BMW Northwest, is ordering part #'s: 51 71 0 420 759 &
31 33 0 422 175. Does anyone know if these will have all the necessary parts to make a complete performance "package?"
    Thank you!

It's absolutely good to have if you're a driver, if your more of a collector who'll only do the occasional drive you could get by without, especially if you use a good modern tire like the new Michelin Pilot Sports. Much of the original problem was down to the very heavy and stiff side-walled Bridgestone fun-flats that came with the car when new.

Welcome! I'm new as well, just having picked up a 2002 last month. I am in the process of adding the PP as well, but doing it on my own. Unfortunately the parts are a la carte. My build list is below. I ordered from ECS Tuning.

You might want to familiarize yourself with RealOem.com. It will give you detailed part schematics for your BMW and is a great resource. Here's a link to to it based on my car's VIN.

    https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?vin=AH61379

The Performance Package is at the following link.

    https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=03_1866

    Build List:

    Strut Tower Brace: 51710420759
    Torx Bolt (need 6): 41618217419
Shock Tower Support (need two): 31330422175
Blind Rivet Nut (need 6): 07146989335
Self Locking Collar Nut (need 6): 07119905374

The installation instructions also call for a gasket to sit between the strut support and inside of the dome, but this part is no longer available. I plan on making one using the new metal bracket that fits on the top of the dome as a template.

Here's a link to Summit Racing where I plan on ordering the gasket material:

    Have fun!

^^^ very nice list you’ve provided.

the Summit link doesn’t seem to be working, do you have the name of the material?

Here is my take on the Performance Package; If you don't get it installed, each time you drive your Z8 you will live in fear of hitting a bad pothole and doing irreparable harm to the car. Get it installed and fully enjoy the car as it was meant to be experienced.

100%. I'll make a video of the PP install. Will be doing the Alpina supsension at the same time. Probably won't be able to get to it till early January though.

    Thanks everyone for your input.
I am going to try to get this installed as I do plan on driving it. Hopefully in a "spirited fashion"

Maybe I'll try it myself if I see your video DeadMansCurve

On the Summit racing link to the gasket material it comes up as: Fel-Pro 3127 - Fel-Pro Gasket Sheets

Do you know if this is the correct, best replacement, material?
There are multiple other materials listed further down on the page...?

    parts for performance package

    Hi everyone,

I'm (still) attempting to install the performance package. Most, but not all, of the parts are available. According to my local BMW dealer its not just the gaskets but the upper strut tower reinforcement bracket that is unavailable from BMW.
The part circled in red is not available, (the one in blue I have).

Does anyone have a source for this part?

    Thank you, Fred (FWE-type Z8)

I tried to post an image of the unavailable part but it doesn't show up.
Hopefully the following link will work; its the part at the top of the "stack" with the "C" indicator on it...
