    Driving in UK

    Hi all,

This month I will ship the car to Trieste again and will drive to Munich. After spending 4 days in Austria and Munich I will leave the car in a safe car park and fly back home. In June I will fly back to Munich and drive to Calais via Stuttgart and Bruges.
Then I will bring the car to London via Euro Tunnel. Is there anything I should consider before I make this trip to UK? Like any kind of insurance? or any kind of permit? I have an insurance called "the green insurance" which is a requirement in schengen countries.

    Thanks,

    Hattat

    Hi,

I found this on the internet, it may be useful:-

I think also you need to check whether your insurer places a limit on the number of days you can use the cars in other countries to your own.

    Regards

Thanks Peter. I need to have that green insurance during the length of my cars stay outside my country. So it will be like 5 months. From May to October. Also I wonder about the congestion charge in central London. Do I need to pay for this. Because my house is in central London.

Try this to see if your house is inside the zone. You would have to be very central.

When a LHD car is in the UK the beams has to be adjusted or taped to avoid blinding the motorist on the other side of the road. Maybe you can ask your BMW workshop how this is done for the Z8, because I see nothing in the manual.

Hi Ton, is this required for visiting cars as well?

Hattat, please make sure your car is locked away securely in a dodgy area like that LOL !!

You should have the beams adjusted as Ton says. This might prove difficult with a Z8 using tapes / stickers. There is hardly a big market for it so not sure if a manufacturer would bother producing any.

My US spec car is being prepared for the UK MOT now. I shall let you know how they dealt with the lights.

I remember the discussion I had with the garage about headlights now. it was the same answer as the one below from a UK forum.

"What seems to be the concensus of other E89 owners is that the beams are so flat, that they are unlikely to dazzle anyone at all - EVER!"

I believe that the same is true of the Z8, the completely flat and low projector beams don't have the curbside kick up of the traditional glass headlamps. I remember in my youth in the UK seeing many tourists with a little bit of black tape covering that section of the headlamps, but the Z8 needs no lamp adjustment for the UK.

This set is available. I am not sure if this a protective seal or a foil to avoid blinding. On the other hand: I checked a japans VIN ( also left side driving) and the same headlamp is mounted.

    Hi Hattat,

If you ever stop by Brussels on your way to Bruges, let me know. I can offer you my garage (in the city center).

Hello Ben, thank you for the kind offer. I actually plan to stop in Brussels before Bruges. Do I need to leave the car before leaving for Bruges? Is it easier without the car in Bruges?
