    2001 Z8 (#60503) Black/Crema - sold

After 16 years this month, itís finally time to let her go to a new home. As the second longest member of this forum, and it still being my only Z8, it is perhaps the most well known known Z8 in America (other than celebrity owned cars). This car has been on nearly all of the infamous Z8 roadtrips and gatherings over the years. It is a joy to own and is the perfect driver to go out and see the country.

It is an original owner car in a beautiful, desirable color combo. Tastefully modified for driving and touring nirvana. Euro Alpina suspension, dinan sway bars and caster plates, strut tower brace (PP), Meisterschaft SS exhaust (forum edition), UUC short shift, Alpina size 20" HRE wheels (only 19#ea), and CDV delete. Custom painted Brembo big brakes with cross drilled rotors, silver painted grills.

The car shows normal wear and tear for itís miles, and still sports itís original widscreen. I planned to replace it when it cracked, but it never has.

All original parts go with the car so it can easily be returned to factory stock. Never any accidents or even dings. Service records since new. All the bits and items including hardtop and the numbers matching coffee table book. The car also comes with a new set of crema floor mats purchased in 2001, never used, still in the bag. You will notice in the photos that the old mats show their age. The only item I never received, was the phone.

All systems are in good working order. Nearly full service records back to new.

Recently inspected, and approved by Andrew Macpherson, one of the worlds top Z8 experts.

Thank you Andrew, and Ed. The community here is what has made owning a z8 such a meaningful and fulfilling experience.

    Bummer, Ian!

What is happening to the hard core of our group? I wish the Gullwing Group members would finally split with their rides and free up a fleet of some 150 of these awesome coupes and roadsters at original sticker prices just like you are offering your beautiful Z8 now. Only difference is that you are some 30 to 45 years younger than these star struck enthusiasts 😂

What is the mileage? Did Peter Pan do all maintenance and mods? Is the car still available? Will you allow books and memorabilia to go with the car?

With Andrew out and you leaving who will pepper my car's hood and windshield with rocks and gravel? You are leaving some awefully big shoes to fill! Following you blindly at full throttle on California's best little back roads made for memories I will never forget.

Best to you and Tracy. Hoping our paths will cross again in the near future.

Thank you Christian! Fond memories indeed! Yes, it's still available. Service and mods were done at PeterPan BMW, east bay BMW, concord BMW (where I bought it) and a specialty place called M Service. Yes, book and memorabilia included. I'll still be around and will show up for any back road hooliganisms!

Ian, with Andrew then you, this is truly a sad end to an era. Thank you for the many, many memories. I really wish it weren't so, but time moves on. I will miss our drives together.

I think it's safe to say we've all made friendships that will last far longer than the car ownership, and I'll also still be up for weekends away and great drives. Besides which I still intend to get another one day in the hoped for more affluent future.

Ian, Thought we talked you out of it a Monterey last summer but alas, not so. But, like all things, the only constant out there is change. Great times for sure and all we need to do is just make the memories continue, regardless of what car we own. If I had room in the garage -- I would buy it !! (but I think my Cindy might have a few words for me if I did!)

After attending yet another Ferrari event in Pasadena yesterday couldn't help but reflect on the Z8. Truly more classic than all the modern era Ferraris.....and now there are so many Ferraris with Ferrari producing many more cars per year than all the Z8s ever produced.

What could replace a Z8? It's modern power and refinement matched to old school classic styling is unsurpassed.

Only a vintage Ferrari could do but they are much more money and not nearly as reliable or refined or built as well as the Z8.
A Vantage V12 Roadster? Super rare and most don't have sticks and frankly, the Aston Martin shape is so similar between all the models that it kills it a bit. The Z8 is much better built than the AM and sports an incredible user friendly trunk.

The SLS is just too big for me and no stick and despite its giant size its got a smaller trunk.

Nope. The only car that compares, IMO, classic styling with modern tech is the uber rare Alfa 8C Spider and the last one of those sold at an auction for $400,000.

Certain cars IMO are part of the "permanent collection" and having a Z8 fits that bill.

GLWS of this spectacular car or should you decide to keep it, enjoy!

WOW - the market SOFT! I would have thought that this beauty would have sold for $50K more in no time. I just don't get it. I should have just bought your Z8 for my new summer ride instead of buying the Porsche Targa 4S (my year around) and thrown some Pirelli Sottozeros on my Z8 with 100K+miles making it the winter car with the hard top on. That would have made quite a Z8 story!!!

i just checked Autotrader for other Z8s, and the only other one listed below this price point was a car with well over 100,000 miles. I believe Rifle's old Z8 is up for sale again too...

Back to Ian's Z8, that's a lot of car for the money that showed very well when I saw it last year in Monterey! GLWTS

Ian, if you don't mind my asking, what other advertising venues are you using to sell the car? I agree with the others, it is a great-looking car and I would have thought it would sell quickly at your asking price.

You might consider BaT now that you are pricing it so, ahem.....reasonably.

You are correct, BaT has really picked up these past couple of months. Be prepared however, to sit behind your computer the entire day to send pictures and answer questions, and have your car "trashed" by so-called specialists that have nothing to do the entire day and aren't even interested in purchasing your car, or any car for that matter.

    I agree, mostly.

Some sellers babysit the listing, most check in once a day. It does help to upload a lot of good pictures from the beginning.

yeah, there will be some "marque experts" chirping on the thread. Just don't engage with non-legitimate questions.

Not sure if the pricing to list on eBay would be impacted but I suggest listing her for what you think she should fetch (perhaps a bit higher) then allow offers. You're likely to get some nonsense bids but geez your ask here seems lowwwwwwww.

2002tii sold on BaT today for about the same price.

    http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-bmw-2002tii-11/

for discussion sake only. In addition to being a great car, the photography and videos were top notch. Other top level cars may not do as well on that site, often due to poor photography.

As the co-owner of a Genuine 2002 Factory Turbo, I think that's stupid money for a hacked-up tii. Somebody has way too much money and not enough sense (I hope no one here).

The car that sold is the sister car to my car. I have the only other M2 ever produced by VSR. Sorry Dan having driven a factory 2002 Turbo multiple times I would take my car every day. Of course I loved the outcome of the auction.

Yup, I never thought this day would come (while I was above ground!). But life has a way of changing. One of these days I'll write a long post about the 16 years I spent on this forum, and what that has meant to me. I'll still be here. I will not miss the car, but will miss the epic road trips and adventures we had together. Those memories will remain with me.

I'm so with you there Ian, and you've been with us on so many of those amazing adventures that have fulfilled every motoring dream and desire I had when I originally bought the Z8. My cup is completely full, no other car or group will ever equal or match the fraternity and fantastic fun of the Z8 community.

As my own Z8 recedes in the rear view mirror of life my next car is going to be a 4x4 desert truck, as I return my focus to my first love, photography, and the California landscape.

Of course I'll always be here too, in my new role as curator and keeper of those wonderful Z8 memories and events.

Sorry you sold her, happy you achieved your goal of selling the Z.

Interesting, the more and more new cars come out, the more I go through Aston Martins and Ferraris, the more the Z8 seems to be the best all around sports car/roadster of all time.
Gorgeous exterior, stunning interior, huge daily usable trunk, BMW parts availability (for the most part), classic styling ever more desirable as every modern sports car looks more and more alike thanks to wind tunnels.

Closest car I compare it to is the 550 Barchetta.....I'd give the exterior styling nod to the Ferrari but the interior to the Z8 and Lord knows the top on the Z is better than the Ferrari.....and the Ferrari is 3 to 4 times the price (and a much better investment).

Driver wise, I can't think of a better all around classic/modern sports car /roadster.

My 2016 porsche 981 Spyder is a great alternative though. Not front engine, v8. But NA flat 6 mid engine shrieker with nearly 400hp, but not the torque.
