Monterey 2016 - Z8 Owner Events and More...

I previously posted pictures from Canepa in Scotts Valley to show some of the cars we saw during our tour. Once in Monterey, our group of five Z8 owners joined the others from our group at the Hotel Pacific. Arrangements were made for car cleaning and detailing services at our hotel, which helped to ensure the Z8s were looking their best.

Post cleaning shine at the Hotel Pacific. This Z8 was parked and covered overnight then driven to The Quail the next day for staging

Great pictures. Of all of the pictures, I like the 507 best! Also, the whales.

And just to prove to those that doubted, we did get the top down on several occasions, and as can been seen in the last shot, we also figured out the total dog-proofing the interior of the Z8!

Interesting that the nasty colored 507 was in the catalog to be shown at The Quail, but I guess they decided to sell it instead.

Also of note, this Series I 507 had a single reverse light and a single fog light on the back. The Series II (the silver one at The Quail) didn't have these as separate lights.

How to tell a Series I from a Series II? See where the wing mirrors are

I may be wrong, but I think Series I had drum brakes all around, whereas Series II had front disk brakes and Rudge knock-off wheels. Mine was 70186 and was a Series I.

Reminds my of the Glenn Frey quote when reviewing old pictures of The Eagles taken by Henry Diltz: "This is not history, this is evidence!"

On Instagram, I noticed that one Z8 owner used a clear protective film to cover the Henrik Fisker signed radio cover door. Has anyone else taken such measures?

Sounds like a good idea to keep it from damage during cleaning, but, what happens when you remove the plastic some day if it is damaged etc?

  15. #15
That's exactly what I thought, which is why my guy recommended to leave it alone and I did.

    Hi Andrew,

Let me know what you did to dog proof the Z8, my 4 legged friend comes with us everywhere but the Z8 is tough and he hates the foot well.

    Cheers

What a fabulous pup, and boat, I love sailing too,, and dogs rule!! :-)

What I did for Coco & Starr was actually duplicate the system I have in the SL, which is make a cover and then put a soft doggy-daybed on top of it.

To make the cover is super easy, just take piece of fabric like an old towel or a sheet, put it in the car, then with a marker draw the pattern. Make sure it goes in deep at the sides, almost to the floor. Then cut it out and place it over a thickly padded vinyl, the kind used for casing & luggage, and make your insert. The vinyl was approx 2x2 meters. You can see roughly the shape I cut and some more shots of it in place.

Because the car I was kindly lent for Monterey was a manual, I just made a small hole for the gear lever and left the e-brake covered to prevent pup scratches, and of course leave the car in gear when parked.

Great pics Ed and Andrew! Merri and I were talking last night about what a great trip it was. Carlos, Ian, Ed and everyone else involved did a fantastic job organizing such a great week! We also discussed what to do about the signature and I am in agreement that we will leave it alone. I thought about clear plastic but also figured that if it started to come up on the edge that it might bring the signature with it.
    Everyone have a great fall!

For the signature, you might consider clear plastic "wrapping" of that part of the dash just as they wrap cars to change the "color". This would protect and would not come off. Don't think you would be able to tell that it is wrapped.

Thank you for sharing these pictures! It truly was an amazing day at The Quail event.

I wasn't able to attend the Historic Races on Saturday, but I'd love to see some images posted here if available.

I'll pop some up shortly. I had to give Roundel the first choice of all my shots, but they just put in their edit today, so I'll be able to share some of the goodness that they didn't want.

You need a lens that makes me look taller; this makes me look about 5'7", when everyone knows I am over six feet tall.

Love the shots of Ted in his blue Z8 and Mark in his black Alpna. It's nice to see the t-shirts, hats and grille badge too designed by Ian in these last two images.
