    PSA: System Updates

    All Z8ers,

After the outage in December/January, we are working on a new technology stack for the site. Over the next week or so, you may find the site unreachable for everyone or on a user-by-user basis. Please be patient as we make this transition.

I'll keep you all updated as we proceed.

We are hoping that this transition will prevent the long outages we had over the Christmas period last year from happening in the future, but as always happens with server changes you may find broken links, or attachments and/or content missing.

Please post anything you find amiss here so we have one thread to address all tech concerns.

The first step completed over night. You may experience a little slowness here and there as you computer/device adjusts to the update, but things should be back to normal on subsequent loads.

    More to come...

    Hey all Z8ers,

We're planning the next stage of the technology update for tomorrow evening (US Pacific) of May 10. The site, and the forums in particular, may not be accessible for an hour or so while we have the hood open, digging around. If all goes well, we should be on a new service in no time.

Don't worry, we're checking the panel gaps and strut towers for any doming on all of our servers

    Hey all,

The migration has been a bit of a process since last night. There always seem to unexpected issues that only surface in production. We're cleaning up a few things here and there, but most things should be working.

Please let us know if you find anything that's not right.

So ironic that two of our strongest supporters who continue to work so diligently for the greater good of our Z8 Brethren are Z8-less for hopefully only the time being.
Thanks much for your continue efforts, Rifle and Andrew.

Thanks, Ted. The community is still a great one, even without a car.

To all. We completed the server migration last week. I've looked up and down the site, and things seem to be good. Please let us know if you run across any issues.

Yep, once you've put 15 years into creating something it's hard to just let it go! For sure it'd be great to get another Z8 in the future, and if funds allow even open a Z8 specialist shop, but we'll have to see how that dream develops slowly!

"...a Z8 specialist shop", that's an interesting idea.

I noticed in the Gallery a couple quirky things.
First, only in some captions, apostrophes are replaced with diamonds: http://www.bmwz8.us/gallery.php?GalleryID=50
Second, when you pick to look at an album of any specific color of car, the system locks and doesn't allow you to advance through the pictures ... and the pictures that are presented are not of color car chosen.

Could be me, but I tried multiple different ways to add images for a new vehicle in the garage section without success. Ted

Thanks, Ted. We'll check on these.

To be honest, I've never even messed with the Garage function. Can you post a screen grab of where you're running into trouble? Thanks!

    Screenshot of garage image

Go to "Garage". Pick "Manage my garage". "Add Vehicle". When you go to add a Main Image, you can browse and pick your image from your files, but when you go to upload the picture, a blank page opens on the browser ... and then nothing. I made sure the image was less than 2MB and a JPG file.

I received a new to me error message when trying to insert an image into a post that stated: Upload errors. Image.jpeg - the dimension limits for this filetype are 1200 x 0. We were unable to resize your file so you will need to do so manually and upload it again. Your file is currently 1502 X 1328.

The site used to size images, but never very well, as it would do terrible compression and really mess the image quality, so I disabled that feature a while back, and we'd just left it as 1200px wide site wide, so I think that's actually an old 'error' so to speak.
