In my March issue of Sports Car Market it shows a 2000 silver/red-black 27,000 mile Z8 that sold in Paris Fra for $309,269

If all things remain equal in the world, and we don't have a major market meltdown, we could see the first 500k Z8 soon.

I think we may be headed for a market meltdown.

Sadly I agree. You can't run an economy on a 300% debt to GDP ratio as China & Japan are trying to do, or 200% as half of Europe is trying, or even 95% as the USA is trying. Without a global debt reset we're headed in a very long and bleak period of central bank panics, police statism and fascism. Well, in truth our present oligarchy is pretty much fascism if one really dissects the meaning of the word.

Hopefully banking with be returned to the utility for which it is best suited, and managed as a utility, not a massive casino fronting for a global power grab by these New World Order maniacs.

Time to stock up on gold ,guns, and non perishables Andrew?

sadly I'm not too far from that viewpoint myself. The evident and persuasive lawlessness of the current administration is exhibit A. We are quickly becoming a banana republic.

I have been right there with Andrew, (tin hat club), for several years now. In the end, we can still drive and enjoy our cars unlike the digital wealth that will likely vanish.

I'm not sure how we got from a for-sale posting of a red/red (best combo!) Z8 to a discussion of a doomsday scenario of the world economy. However, in spite of the gloom and doom the U.S. still represents the most stable political and economic safe harbor in the world, and as such will thrive based on resources flowing in from less stable countries. That's not to say we don't have our share of problems, but if our economy goes down (which I am betting against) you probably best follow Josh's tongue-in-cheek suggestion of stocking up on guns and non-perishable food items.

Agree with Marty and Andrew with a slight grain of salt. Sam Zell is selling his RE portfolio again (last time in late '07 or '08) and in my world that is a sign that RE is cooling. The reports in the car auction world I have seen are lower highs on traditionally expensive cars and lower totals overall, partly victim of fewer bidders from the oil boom crowd. Not that I know what will happen, and I have been working around bankruptcy people long enough that the sky is always falling, but look for late '16 to mid '17 for bigger effects, and if Yellen reverses and follows a negative interest rate course, it may cause some doubts about the continuation of the dollar as the world's currency.

But it is a pretty red car, so someone's bound to buy it. For the Seller's sake, hopefully some French guy. At 12k miles it is between that magic below 10k premium and above 20k discount. Are those the breakpoints these days?

The entire collector car market seems to be taking a breather, with Ferraris and Porsches in particular probably setting up for a price correction. Although the hammer price on this Z8 was $170k, the buyer knew he was looking at a 10% buyer premium, so in his mind the price was $187k. Probably a reasonable price for a nice silver/red car.

Alpina 267/555 just sold here in Amelia at the Hollywood auction. (SN:62276). It was black/black with 31,000 miles and it sold for $225,000 plus whatever the commission was. (Not sure on this auction). I also watched the car sell at Bohnams on Friday and talked to the buyer. He was pretty excited to get it.

As well as sellers commission - so they received less than $170K... Unsure for Bonhams rate is.

I watched that too. HW charges 'only' 8%, which is reasonable. (Bonhams and RM are 10%). The selling representative Peter - with whom I was bidding on the blue GT3 - said the Z8 deal now looks like it may unwind. Didn't say why. HW had lots of cars that did not sell, though they put forth a pretty good effort, or at least to me.

I didn't see the blue GT3, but have to ask if was Otis Chandler's old Minerva Blue car was it, as I have a lot of pix of that one from my crazy 18 months of GT3 ownership.

That'd be pretty cool if it was, but this was a Cobalt blue car at Hollywood Wheels, 22k miles. Sound the same? And if you were there and I missed meeting you, my loss was even greater!

No, I wasn't there, I just scanned some of the sales from afar. In my Porsche days there was a very unique paint to order Minerval blue 996 GT3 with tan interior that I always loved being on track with.

I'd originally photographed in Otis Chandler's museum/collection, then many times at our track days. About five years ago I got contacted by a private jet pilot in Florida who'd bought the car, and seen my old shots on Rennlist, so I sent him some over and filled him in on its history. Always stayed in the back of my mind that I'd love that car if it came up for sale.
