    Twin Solex 40 side drafts

    Hello all,
I recently had the opportunity to purchase a 1967 1600 GT. The car is totally original with the exception of a Weber conversion. I'm in search of a good matching pair with manifolds, linkages, etc to return it to factory original specs. This was the same set up as supplied on the 1600 ti and 2002 tii.
    Any help appreciated.
    Chris

It's my understanding that the Solexs are a bear to tune and keep in tune, so you may want to keep them in the box once you do get them :-)

Thanks for the heads up Andrew. I was guessing the same given someone had gone to the trouble of converting to Webber so early in a car's life. I may just do exactly as you've suggested.

It all depends what you want to achieve. Solex are great carburetors yet so few people know how to work on them. Trying to tune a worn-out Solex is like chasing your own tail. They need to be properly rebuilt and machined when necessary. This can be expensive. All my vintage BMW's, including the 1600GT run on their original Solex carburetors and I never had any problem. Can't say the same for when I had the Mercedes 190 SL's.
