    airbag recall

I still wonder what airbag we have got in our car. The airbag in our car is from the same supplier

True Andrew, that is the best option But all the images in mind of crashed Z8 without deploying the airbag still makes me wonder.....and this is the second recall! 1.6 million can't be ignored ....but 5703??

I believe it is the E46 3 Series airbags that were recalled. BMW won't release the name of the manufacturer, but if I were you I would contact the dealer and get a manufacturer name or model number, then contact BMW to see if yours in on the list of recall items, just to be safe.

    Hi,

Thanks for your answer! But I know that the manufacturer is Takata for the Z8 but also for the E46 in the same period. My assumption is that our car is equipped with the same pyro mechanism as the 3 or 5 series....and a small series is easy to forget. This combined with a lot crash pictures I have without deployed airbags ...makes me worry a bit :-)
Lately I spoke a Swiss Z8 owner who crashed his car in a rock ....and his airbags deployed :-)

With the airbag recall again in the news, I'm wondering if (since the last post in 2014) anyone might have more information on who supplied airbags for the Z8 production line.

For whatever it's worth, I was an up close observer in the recent severe crash of one of our Z8 owners. Both airbags deployed as they should and, in this accident that saw a Z8 totaled and torn to shreds, the driver and passenger both walk away, with the passenger suffering a sprained wrist and the driver unscathed.

As I understand it, the problem isn't so much the airbags failing to deploy. It seems a small percentage of bags are deploying with a hand grenade effect from the canister and killing drivers with shrapnel.

I received an airbag recall notice on my 2002 M5 at least six months ago, wherein they noted the replacement units were not available at that time and I would be notified when they became available. Not a word since.
