05 Mercedes-Benz SLR. Testing waters on selling one.

This is truly a odd market when it comes to selling one of these cars. loads out there for 200K but selling something like this is a challenge from all sides. Dropped a message to Marty already, but any other advice or any others who can point me in the right direction on someone who would be interested in something like this ?

Going with a broker / someone who knows the market is probably a good idea. My advice is to keep it simple on your end- don't have too many cooks in the kitchen.

Good luck, I bet it is a hard car to sell, especially when there are so many stunning new machines like the GT3 and the TT available for a lot less.

Yes there is a glut of expensive high end auto exotica out there. But its still a SLR and it will find a home. Might take some effort and might take a hit on the financial side but it will sell.

Andrew, I'm not so sure that the gt3 buyers has anything to do with the SLR buyer?

Yeah I agree but I think he means it more generally.

True, but not many cars, if any, compete in the same arena. What would you cross-shop it against? SLS?

I did, just could deal with the fact that a super car has a 5 speed auto which is basically the same as the one you get in a run of the mill C Class. Plus the fact that the SLS came with 4 years of warranty.

I can understand that. But to me its close enough. MBZ usually (Im not sure on the BS cars) programs their dual clutch transmissions to be gentle and protect warrantied items. To me the real issue with the SLR is the corporate back and forth between MBZ and McLaren lead to not quite as focused product as it could have been. On the flip side, the SLS is AMG saying we can do this!

I'd say the biggest downfall to the SLR are the brakes. It's like stepping on a slightly soggy sponge. Nevertheless, much rarer than an SLS and its cartoon-like proportions make it unique.

That doesn't sound very confidence inspiring!

Well, it's fast and unique and unlike a GT3 which looks like a gazillion other 911s or an SLS, the odds of seeing another one on the road with you are super rare. Driving one is a bit of an event. I've only driven the roadsters but it is definitely a cool and unique experience. I wouldn't mind owning a roadster.

Sounds like fun. Agreed about the other cars.
