Ouch is right! There is a set of Euro tail lights at least.

What's wierd is it was a hell of an impact to do that, yet the airbags didn't go off?

Has anyone seen deployed airbags in a z8? Can't remember any.

  6. #6
Yes, for sure, in several pictures on that 'wrecked exotic' site from a few years back. I stopped looking at it years ago because it made me sad, but I do remember seeing the airbags deployed in almost every shot on there.

No deployed airbags....driver was stopped by the steering wheel and the front screen was dented by object from the outside. All reasons why an airbag should be deployed. As far as I know an airbag has a maximum date .....these ones may be over date?

The trunk (boot) was clearly not damaged in the accident, but rather trying to get into it after the fact.

WTF? Were they in need of getting the Ice cream out before it melted?

Maybe to access the first aid kit? Many European countries require a kit be carried in every car. Just a guess...

Yeah, looks like the right tower may be domed, but can't tell about the left...
Surprised me when I noticed the steering wheel bent forward, that's when I noticed there was no air bag deployment.

Did you hear the door close? Not torqued at all. Passenger compartment is also safe and sound. Must be one heck of a frame!

That car looks even worse in the pictures than in the video, I'd say it's only really fit for scrap. I'm sure it could be rebuilt, but at double the cost of replacing it.

To American values it is ready for scrap. What are the current prices for a car with 45K mls: 75K? minus this piece of junk: 30K remains for parts and rebuilding. To European values a car with 45K miles prices are about ?85K so you have ?45k to spend on repair....but I would never step into that car

Do you think this was the official Hamann upgrade car that they used in their promotional photo sessions?

Worldwide 220.000 BMW 3 series ( build between December 2001 and March 2003) get a recall because the airbag can be malfunctioning. Does anyone know what kind of airbags we have? I have seen quite a lot of pictures now of Z8 with all kinds of (severe) damage .....but never an airbag was deployed???

This is a question for the Club, I have never known what kind of airbags we have, but I have seen a lot of pictures with them deployed, sadly.

I sent all the pictures of the crashes with non deployed airbags to Dieter. His opinion is that the impact of the collision was not strong enough. After that I spoke to a German (ex) owner who hit the safety barrier on the Autobahn with about 80 mls....and no airbags were deployed. I know we have a special car ....but our mortal bodies are not that special that we can take that kind of impacts without problems :-)
