I am sure a lot of work went into it, but not my cup of tea.

I like it. Did they leave off the reinforcing ring/plate that goes on the top of the front shock towers?

I know this car- I think its great and I am guessing the steering wheel was done for performance reasons but Id have kept the stock steering wheel for looks. The wheels suit the car. This is one seriously powerful Z8.

I know Dinan was commissioned to build a replica of GM's car for a CA client, so I'm guessing this is that car.

I thought maybe that was GMs car...

At my last viewing GM had kept the original steering wheel, though he was thinking about doing an M3 e46 steering rack which I did like the sound of, but then he vanished from the board so I never knew if he went through with that mod. According to our stats he last dropped by about six months ago, but he hasn't posted here in years.

I spoke to one of the guys at Dinan extensively about another DP motor based car, which was done after GM's as a sort of mirror+ project. I never did learn who the owner was, except that it was a NorCal resident of considerable means.

For those newer here you can see my original Roundel article about GM's car here.

(PS: I can't be 100% sure, but about 90% that the brakes on this one are possibly the Dinan badged Brembos or maybe AP Racings, but they don't appear to be the more angular looking Stoptech's fitted to GM's car - but of course he could have changed those again too.)

I would love to see all the build details of this car. If anyone knows the owner, please invite them to share the details.

The more I look, the more I like.

Oil pan for a dry sump oiling system is my guess.

That would make sense...the thing mounted to the rear bulkhead looks like an oil filter. On the other hand, that's a huge oil tank and the stock oil filter is still there up front.

I believe this is right because if I remember correctly the Dinan modded S62 eschews VANOS and goes to a dry sump all in the name of lower CG and of course POWER!

Vanos does seem to be missing. Engine doesn't seem to be lowered, but I believe the tranny would prevent that even with a dry sump.

That makes sense. Its very possible I simply mis-remember. Its been a long time.

Yes, it is oil for the dry sump systems which includes some very noisey mechanical lifters.

I'm not afraid to ask stupid questions...what are mechanical lifters?

Solid lifters (mechanical) do not pump up with oil they are solid and therefore require lash (space) between the lifter and rocker arm. The noise occurs when the two surfaces meet. Kinda like ticking.

Very common with high performance Push-rod American V-8s.

IMHO there are no stupid questions, we're all learning from each other

Doh! valve lifters! I understood Andrew was referring to the dry sump setup. You can imagine my confusion trying to envision a machine mechanically "lifting" oil.

I do that kind of thing all the time. when you don't "hear" the context of a person's statement, cause it is in type, it is easy to have your mind in a different frame of reference. Or at least that is my excuse.
