Thread: New Years Day Drive, LA.

  1. #1

Thumbs up New Years Day Drive, LA.

What a stunning day, winter at it's absolute best. We met up at the Shell station right at the foot of the 2, and from there drove up to the Angeles Forest Highway, up Big Tajunga Rd, and back on to the Angeles Crest all the way up to the Tunnels, and the overlook at 7,500ft. We saw temps from a low as 42? to as high as 81? on the way home!

It was a breathtakingly clear morning, and though hard to see in the pictures, from the overlook the office buildings in Newport Beach 70 miles to the south were clearly visible, as was the island of San Clemente, behind Catalina and over 100 miles from where we were.

From there we rolled back down to Newcombes Ranch for breakfast, and then rolled back down the hill before the usual holiday crowds arrived. (there's also 18 more pix in the Gallery).

That was a great way to start the New Year!!! Got home by 10:30 am invigorated and with plenty of time to do my familial duties.

Looks like it was a great morning drive in the new year! My favorite shot is the 7th from the bottom with red Z8 and the corkscrew section of the road in the background. I can feel my right hand reaching for second gear now to attack that section of the road!

I'm always amazed to see a group picture of Z8s. All last year excluding the Danville concours event that I attended with Mike and Ian, I only saw two Z8s on the road in the San Francisco Bay Area. On December 23rd there was a silver Z8 traveling in the opposite direction through Atherton and the next day there was another silver car parked across the street from the San Francisco opera house. That's it!

That image struck me as well. Roads like that are a Z8 dream. I would love it (without the orange poles) poster-size in my workshop! With one glance, you could be transported a million miles away.

Happily that spot is only fifty miles front my front door, having two mountain ranges right here is what makes LA such a drivers dream! :-)

The pics bring the word 'glorious' to mind.

One my best Z8 memories was riding with Andrew up to Newcombes with the newly fitted EU Alpina suspension installed on the long way 'round to Buttonwillow for tuning by Craig Stanton. It's amazing how quickly you go from one of the country's largest cities to total isolation. Great road!

It was a great drive and worth the trek up there for the amazing view. Thank for arranging it.

Beautiful country and beautiful ride. In Texas, some of us were Paul Peck's (routineer) guests at his New Year's Eve party in Dallas. I saw Dennis Slechta (pandaman) and met Dr. Jeff Morris (Z8doc) from OK. We had a great time and some interesting "events." Jeff was taking some pictures and may post a few.

This fifteen minute clip is to be enjoyed after dinner, with a glass of wine and a cigar....

Beautiful work. The clarity of the new cam is really good.

Andrew had the front camera and I had the rear one. My movie also came out with excellent clarity. Maybe one of these days I'll have time to sit down and put some music to it and we can both movies. We will have some great footage in our Cambria and Napa drives.

Are there metering adjustments for center-weigthing and WB?

I think it is just regular evaluative, but was impressed that it kept the road and cars correctly exposed. I was wondering if it only meters the bottom half of the frame as the top half is usually sky.
