    Exclamation More forum updates...

You might notice having to log in again over the next couple of days as we transition from VBB3 to VBB4. I have asked our designer and VBB specialist Jesse to keep the look and feel of the site the same as before, but just with the new funtionality.

We'll all be on the learning curve together on this one, so let meknow if you see any glitches, problems etc.

I noticed the site was offline this afternoon, but it still shows 3.8.6. I'll be keeping an eye out over the next few days.

The database is being ported into the VBB4, so I'm guessing thats why.

So turns out VBB4 is a lot harder to deal with than we'd thought, so don't expect any major changes soon. We'll be staying with the tried and test VBB3.8 for a while longer.

Not sure if this is a wide spread error, but I get a redirect error on a fresh login attempt.

Same error here as well (only if using the login at the top right of the page.) If I click on the private forum links I can login there with no problem.

Looks like there's a reference that didn't update on the last push from the dev server to live.

Could also be because Tony doesn't have the site bookmarked in his bar.

    Guilty as charged

But I can type the 8 letters in a fraction of the time it takes to move the mouse over the button and click!

I do use Launch Bar and have used Quicksilver in the past. With Lion and the integrated trackpads, I'm finding less need for these applications.

When browsing in Safari, I just type Command+L followed by the url in most abbreviated way (e.g., bmwz8.us) and hit enter.

I use Launch Bar - very basically, though. I really just use it as an app launcher, but I'll occasionally use it to do a Google search or kick off an email. Like you, Lion has introduced some new ways. I've switched to a trackpad on my desk, and after organizing Launch Pad, I've found that I like it pretty well too.

With the 30" screen, the keyboard is probably faster, but Launch Pad is good graphical way get the same job done, besides having the halo usage effect with switchers brought it from the iOS side.

With Launch Pad, Versions/Resume, and iCloud, it's blatantly obvious that Apple intends to remove file system interaction from 95% of Mac users in the next major OS revision. For the most part, I'd agree that this is the way to go. For the nerd in me that cringes at this, I also know that Finder and Terminal will be around for quite some time, just out of the spotlight.

You're right on all accounts. As long as terminal access is there, I'm onboard with Apple's vision. The scrolling issue also was probably blown way out of proportion. Not really a big deal.

My only problem right now with Lion is a serious display/freeze problem on my 2011 iMac. Anyone considering upgrading a 2011 iMac, should probably wait until 10.7.2.

I'm fuzzy, even from last week, but I seem to recall that there are some graphics fixes in 10.7.2. I'm really looking forward to the ability to re-order desktops/spaces - can you guess why?

10.7.2 should be with us within weeks.

    That's some serious multitasking

10.7.2 should add a lot of useful functions to spaces. I sure hope they resolve the graphics card / Lion problem on select Apple products.

I also get that same message and I have tried everything you have mentioned and nothing has worked. Once I get the invalid error message, I can go over to the left side and click on "forum" and then the forum page comes up.

Those that are experiencing this might want to try deleting the "cookie" associated with the site. Each browser has a different method, but you should be able to Google the procedure for "delete cookie " (Safari is under Prefs, Privacy, then Details panel). Follow the process search for 'Z8', and then delete any associated cookies.

I'm not positive that this is the issue, but the cookie holds your login preferences, which could be fouling after the migration to the new severs this summer.

    It's worth a try.

I just signed in and the error did NOT occur. I did get rid of my old bookmark link in the meantime though - Not sure if it had anything to do with that or not. Bottom line - It worked just fine this time.

    Haven't run across anything.

This was a 2.1MB jpg, but it down converted on upload. That's new. Shows 25k now. Are they doing image compression by default?

They shouldn't be, I can tell it looks pretty clumsily compressed. but I can't be sure?

I had my soft top window replaced on my first Z8 many years ago. While the instructions may make it seem like a relatively painless job, I assure you it is not. I had Dale at Thomas Top and Upholstery do mine. He is an expert and it took him and another guy three hours to complete the job and he was mumbling some rather unpleasent words along the way.

Since we're getting to year end I thought I'd trow up our lastest numbers, seems we're running pretty consistent traffic and time on site this year to last. Thank you all for making it great, and it is the sum of everyones activity!

Its very interesting Turkey is the 9th most visiting country only with 1 member on the site. Is it only me or are there any other different visitors from Turkey? Also there should be a frequent visit from Libya as well until Feb 20.

Jerry pretty much nailed it. A 'bot' is a non-human user of the Internet. The good ones are the spiders from search engines like Google that catalog website content to help human users find information. The not so good ones exploit security holes to place ads, gather info for junk mail, etc., usually non-destructively. Any site with a comment system like a forum or even a personal blog will often get this undesirable bots, as they can attempt to access the site through common file names for the comment system. Since users of this site have to register, they're stopped from affecting us, but they can be annoying on the backend, chewing up processor cycles and contaminating logs.

I don't know that's what the traffic from Turkey is about. I know many cars are going to Russia. So, they should naturally have good traffic, but if they aren't already, the tech team could limit bot traffic even further with some simple controls. It's really no biggie.
