    Silver Grills

Norcal and I had our grills (actually new ones with the originals tucked safely away) recently painted via Dana at Peter Pan. The paint is BMW "true", coming off of the current Z4.

The issue with the black grills on the black cars is that they get lost, visually, and the car doesn't really develop a proper "face". With the gray/silver, there is better contrast, and the face really emerges. And, what a face it is! The paint gives the car so much more character, and it very much makes a nod to the 507.

On our recent trip with several others to Cambria, we discussed the other colors that might benefit, and it was our belief that it really should only be applied to the darker cars with Topaz and Stratus likely candidates (maybe Red). It would definitely be a step backward on a Silver car, but they could benefit from painting the lower grill body color to give the upper one more definition.

It's a great upgrade that looks spectacular on the road!

I do think the silver works well on black cars. Well done.

Looks great on silver. I wonder what it would look like on a red car.

I think red is the color that would look good either way as silver or black both have enough contrast to give good definition. I think I'd prefer black on red, as silver would seem a little too "blingy" with red already being a bolder color.

I will say that the lower grill needs to be body color in all cases.

Yes, the lower grill very easy to remove. Just a half dozen or so screws. Had mine off when my laser blocker send receive units were installed.

Has anyone done the grills on a Silver/Red car?

The silver-colored grills on the Z8 also acknowledges the 507 that used chrome kidney grills...

No, but it wouldn't work. No contrast.

Interesting to see BMW themselves are showing the very same initiative with the new 1 Series.

I don't think that's a color specific change, but rather two different equipment versions - sport line and urban line. Sport is BMW's typical package with shadow trim and accents. The Urban line is more lux with chrome. So, you could have the chrome on the red and black on the black. Also notice the wheels and chin spoiler.

I'm not sure about this new 1. I'm going to have to see it.

Its better than the old 1 by a mile, but still lagging the comparable Audi in grace and style badly.

I do like the longer proportions that give it the silhouette of the old M coupe/clownshoe.

Agreed Andrew BUT- which one drives better? I bet the BMW does. Every Audi I've driven has disappointed in the driving department. They all start out life as FWD and that shows. I think the one car that people go gaga over didnt start out life as FWD- the R8.

The only Audi I've driven is the R8, which of course we all know is a stellar handler. None of the others seem to test that well when I read the mags, but they sure look nice! :-)

Our run of the mill 3 series is such a joy to drive. The straight 6 is one of the best engine configurations and the car's handling is as good as it gets. BMW styling might be a topic for debate, but when it comes to handling and performance, they have their act together.

    Photobombing MBlitz/// in Carmel...

We couldn't resist seeing how silver grilles would look on red, so popped them on while he wasn't looking!

Yup, looks amazing... More of a "face" and more classic.
