Flip out screen solution? Alpine IVA D310

I was reading the BMW Car Magazine guide to the Z8 and they list the Alpine IVA D310 as an option for replacing the factory radio. Anyone know if in fact it will fit?

I checked into it. Any of the single DIN fold out solutions have clearance issues and end up displaying at an odd angle (past vertical toward the occupants). They're not a good solution.

You're welcome to give it a go, but I did not like the look or the usability.

    Are you just after navigation?

I'd be curious how the computer inputs would work. From OBDII?

On the music library, there are lots of options in 1DIN form.

I have a datalogger--3 axis accelerometer+3 axis gyro+gps+12 channel tire temp+OBDII--that interfaces with a PC. It's overkill, of course, but what the hell. I was using it for kart racing, but don't have much time for that anymore-unfortunately.

Just want to be clear--you tried the Alpine D310 specifically?

    thanks again, John

My head unit has failed and I am interested in ANY in-dash CD unit that fits. Recommendations?

You've got lots of options. Might browse the reviews on Crutchfield.

There is an interesting iPhone App called Rev2.0 that allows all these same functions and more including Code reset function on any car including the Z8. It requires a separate device called a Kiwi from PLX Devices that essentially turns your 16 pin OBDII port on the underdash area on the driver's side into a Wifi connection that your iPhone can connect to and monitor your engine, ECU function, and uses the iPhone's built-in accelerometer to help measure wheel HP, torque, and other functions. It's a fun app and thing to play with but will work on any car and can store / archive results. Check it out at the App Store on Apple's iTunes website.
    Best Regards,
