    pics as promised!

Here in microcosm is the arc of BMW postwar, my Isetta 600 represents BMW nearly in insolvency churning out basic transportation for the masses, the 3.0csi is BMW rising to the occasion to produce a world class car competing against the Mercerdes SL, and now the Z8, a timeless design that stands alone in both form and function.

My mom drove an Isetta in high school - she used to have to hunt around for her car because the football team would regularly pick it up and hide it

My dream car when I first started driving was a 3.0CS. They were over $14,000 in 1973! May as well have been a million dollars, I couldn't afford one. I would still like one today if I could find a mint, low mileage, manual transmission car, but the mechanic who works on my Z8 said they are hideously expensive to work on and usually need something since now they are old cars.

The 3.0 is not that expensive if you get a rust free example. It's all the same drivetrain as the 4 door Bavaria. I've had mine for 21 years and it's just been mostly preventative maintenence (plus a 5 speed, webbers instead of the Dtronic, and a few others mods along the way)

Beautiful collection, Josh, and nice to see another Coupe + Z8 enthusiast here! I can echo your comments on the ease of maintaining a 3.0. The drivetrain is common enough, so there are plenty of shops around if you get in deep water and need a specialist.

    Here's mine:

what a coincidence! My 3.0 was the same color with the same stripes for about 14 years untill I painted it Agave when the red began to give out. (plus a branch falling on the hood and fender) did not have an airdam though.

What a beauty, and oddly enough my first moped when I was 16 was an M reg too, that car came out the year I started driving on the road! Mind you I'd already done six or more years tearing around the farm on and in different MOT failures we picked up for pennies from the local scrap yard!

Nice collection. Glad to see others share the Z8/3.0 tandem. Mine is actually a 3.5 and a nice rust free project for when times are better! Drives great but has some needs that I hope to address this winter. Cool cars and great, airy feeling for a coupe. As a tall guy, BMW has always made cars that fit long frames.

You fans of the lovely 3.0 series might like to see this one, for sale at Bonham's next week at The Quail.
