    VIN decoding mysteries

I have three cars here that I am trying to figure this out for, 2 Euros and 1 US. Below are the numbers, with the areas of concern left blank.

As you can see the info doesn't fully match up on the Euro models, but it does (with holes) on the US one. I thought it was a 'one world system', but is it possible that EU VIN codes are different than US ones?

CAR CAME FROM FRANCE, July '00 build.
    W.............Country of manufacture ?..W =Germany
    B..............BMW
    A..............Division
    EJ1...........Model id
    1..............EU Spec
    0..............?
    6..............Accuracy check digit
    0..............Year of assembly matches
    A..............Assembly plant
    F..............EU spec
    777**......Serial number

CAR CAME FROM HOLLAND, Stratus color & serial # suggests 02 or even 03 build
    W????..Country of manufacture ?..W =Germany
    B.............BMW
    A.............Division
    EJ1..........Model id
    0.............?
    1.............?
    0.............Accuracy check digit
0.............? surely this can't be a '00 build, the serial # is over 2000 cars on from the known July '00 build above?
    A.............Assembly plant
    F.............EU spec
    797**.....Serial number

    US SPEC, Aug '02 build.
    W............Country of manufacture ?..W =Germany
    B.............BMW
    A.............Division
    EJ1..........Model id
    3.............US Spec
    4.............?
    0.............Accuracy check digit
    2.............Year of assembly matches
    A.............Assembly plant
    H.............US spec
    61***.....Serial number

Here by comparison are some VIN's taken from EBay, which show a continual variance in nos 9 &10.

    WBAEJ13401AH60495

    WBAEJ13421AH60675

    WBAEJ13422AH61519

    WBAEJ13451AH60993

    WBAEJ13471AH60624

    WBAEJ13481AH61023
    WBAEJ13481AH60597

Love to hear from anyone who knows what this means.

    To add more confusion.....

My Z8 VIN is different also in that I have the letter X in the spot where the "accuracy check digit" goes. Not sure what this means either?

My full VIN is WBAEJ134X3AH61995 and was manufactured in Sept 2003 and is a US Spec car - Z8 [not Alpina]. None of the others I have seen have a letter in that spot? The X may be Roman for 10 as it looks like that digit is in ascending order, possibly somehow coordinating with the last 4 digits as they increase toward the end of the line but I am definitely NOT sure.

Any additional info since your last post?
