    Two-tone car in Monaco

Found pictures of a two-tone stratus gray/creme Z8 on another site. The pictures are too good to pass up and wanted to post them here. The owner even has a 007 license plate. I recall seeing pictures of a black/silver version a while back but don't remember where I saw them. Not for me, but it is very unique. Here's the link also...

    That is a fun sighting...

and seeing the German plate makes me wonder if it was one of the BMW Z8 Club cars that made the drive to Monaco this spring. We have a few shots of owner's individual cars in the Gallery, you can search by color by clicking on the little links, here are all the odd colored cars that made it into the Gallery.

I think if the did not carry the beige forward of the front wheel, keeping the front bumper stratus, It would look a whole lot nicer...IMHO
    2000 Red over black
heavily modified for performance. Although, not to the level of GM's car

I agree, that would be a much prettier treatment. I'm still waiting to see some of the other 140+ cars that BMW's Individual Program made. I know they did a few in Carbon Black Metallic with Saddle interior, one has been seen in a private collection in Germany, and is said to be the very most handsome of all the Z8's, which I can believe. So far very few Individual cars have turned up at the Z8 Club in the EU, and with the exception of the four Midnight Metallic Blue/Arizona Sun cars that went to Canada I'd guess that almost all of them are in Germany.

    Painted Coves

An obvious reference to the Austin Healey 3000 - with which the Z8 shares the beltline running just above the side gill and below the door handle (in fact I remember when spy shots of the Z07 came out with the fornt/rear obscured there was some specuation that BMW was bringing out a "new" AH-3000, as BMW owned the rights to the Austin Healey name at the time). There is a problem with this light colored cove on the Z8 as it forces a color separation on a flat panel as the beltline continues on the quarter panel-blending into the rear fender arch, where the Austin Healey line continued across the wheel arch and ended at the rear of the car.

Below is a picture of an AH-3000 with painted coves

I personally think the painted cove (excluding the front end) on the Z8 looks more like the painted cove of the 1953 - 60 Corvette. Which, has classic roadster lines like the same era 507.

I would have liked it better if the two-colors wrapped around the whole car like the picture below. Warning... I'm not a photoshop expert.

They should have left it well alone, there really was no reason to turn the Z8 into Shamu!

I agree. The Z8 just does not look good in a two tone paint combination. Period.

By the way, after seeing the Midnight Blue car up close the one thing that is easy to overlook on this car is the lovely polished looking rims. These are actually painted, or coated in some way with a very high metal flake content paint that really looks like it is polished metal. Now that could be a lovely color to do an entire car!

Ya know, I've been thinking about keeping the car even with it's accident history. I'm toying with the idea of repainting it. I'd thought of a dark charcoal metallic, even a shade of blue...but now maybe a really bright silver with the red interior. My concern would be the dark area of the headlights being even more pronounced. We know there are custom colors out there in someones garage, interesting that they've never been seen.

Charcoal grey and red is what I'd have too, shame you didn't think of it while she was apart!
Did you notice this stunning combo at the Quail?
