    Original MSRP-plus sale prices.

Found this dealer sticker along with original window factory sticker from Braman BMW in West Palm where my car was puchased new by original owner in 2002 (#61238).

    "Market Availability" surcharge of $25,000!!!

It amazes me that these wonderful machines continued to sell for way over MSRP 2 1/2 - 3 years into its production. Were they selling for more in 2000 or was street value stable over its lifespan?

Anyone else know what their car brought when new?

I have been told the first one was sold for $300,000 by Beverly Hills BMW, I also heard of one going for $250k, and I know for a fact that they regularly sold for $175+ through to late 01, it wasn't till into 02 that it possible to find them at real MSRP. I bought my 02 at MSRP in Jan 03, and I recently paid more than MSRP for my 03.

$300,000.00 is incredible. Greater than 2x MSRP!!
Certainly sounds like the feeding frenzy died down slowly as time went on.
Wonder when the Z8 values will get back to their glory day levels? They certainly seem to be well on their way based on what I'm seeing.

I was living in Northern CA when I purchased mine (AH60391). I bought it from a dealer in Alabama and still paid a $25,000 premium. A guy I worked with paid $250K for his because he bought it off of the lot!! I also remember "Black Z8" from the other site telling me he bought the first car in CA for $300K.

There was a rumor of a famous tennis player paying over 350k to get one of the very first ones for his gorgeous wife.

I paid list in '01 from a reputable dealer (the only dealer I will work with now), but had put down deposit at least two years earlier, when the rumor was published in R&T.

I had deposits at two dealers. The "other" dealer had said I was #1 on the list, but kept selling cars for $200K+ and telling me "that's not the car you ordered" even though it was silver/black and as we know there were no options. It was a nutty start to a wonderful experience.

Pete Sampras paid 300K for an all black one at Beverly Hills BMW. It was the first car they got in 2000. A good friend of mine, who still owns his black/crema 2000, put down a 10K deposit at the January 2000 L.A. Auto Show with Steve Thomas BMW in Camarillo. When he went to pick it up in June of 2000, he told me they handed him a check for $50,000 if he would take a pass on the car. He turned down the 40K profit and drove it home!

I paid MSRP + $1200 for chromed wheels in late October of 2002 for my '02. It was purchased from Palm Springs BMW through Autoland (connected with Western Federal Credit Union in California). I would never use this dealer again though, as they would not provide (i.e. refused) any help with items that were missing from the original delivery package--e.g. the "book", key fob, and charger.

I paid a little under MSRP for a new 2001 in 2001, took delivery in Germany (its an American car) drove it over there for two weeks it was then shipped to Houston at no charge. I had to go to Houston from the Dallas / Fort Worth area to pick it up about a month later. It made it home with out a scratch.

Paid $128,000 (-$5,000) new in November 2002. My Z8 was ordered by a CEO of a local Energy Company and in the post-Enron fallout, he did not take delivery, so.... his loss is my gain and sooooo glad it was !!

I collect vintage Ferraris and actually know little about the value of these cars. I did think that $115 for my 893 mile car was somewhat below market. The car is really without any flaws. The Z8 is the only car manufactured in the last 38 years or so (since the Ferrari Dino and Daytona) that I have really coveted. I do believe that exceptional examples will actually appreciate with time.
I don't know why I waited this long.

I waited for two years to avoid dealer mark-up.

I remember stepping into my local dealer in 2001 and they had one on the floor for $200K, which included a "market price adjustment." I was unwilling to pay that, so I told my SA that I would take the last Z8 in their allocation. He called me back in June of 2002 and said that I could have their last allocated car, which would be built in late 2002 or early 2003. Sold!

He called me back in late November 2002 and said the car was slated for production. I told him that because of conflicts, I would not be able to travel to Germany until July of 2003. He checked with BMW and they said no problem, they would hold the car at the factory until July. The car was built in January of 2003. I picked it up at the old Freimann Delivery Center on July 28, 2003 and had two glorious days of Autobanh driving.

When I ordered the dealer said they wanted a $1,000 refundable deposit if Silver/Black. When I told them that I wanted Bright Red/Sport Red they said the deposit would be $30K non-refundable.

I believe that my car (AH62234) is the last U.S. Z8.

Thanks for the interesting story. Patience and lack of impulsivity did pay off in the end.
