    Replacement S62

There has been a lot of discussion around "what if I need a motor". I recently found this post from 2010. Private party selling his used motor. Someone in the same thread said "Dinan charges 8,000 for theirs" (new, rebuilt or used??) Anyway FWIW probably a reasonable cost for a used replacement.

OEM S62 (62k miles runs perfect, young and healthy) - $7500

$8k seems too good to be true or maybe just for a short block + a usable core

    either way $7500 seems steep

should a Z8 owner for some reason end up needing a motor if you swap for M5 S62s you'll need to do the oil sump, pump, and associated items

and you should consider rod bearings while you're at it

Good point, thanks for the reminder that all S62's are not the same!

According to that forum, the engine is sold, the transmission is still available.

    entire E39 M5 part outs aren't a rare thing - someone was selling a Dinan S2 engine+headers recently

transmissions are an item to look out for as they might become more expensive in the future, for a specific bearing that is no longer produced
