    Hardtop Headliner

I likely with be purchasing a very low mileage, one owner 2001 Z8.
It will be inspected on Monday. I have been told that the hardtop headliner is sagging a bit and my understanding is that this is common. Does anyone know how this is repaired.
    Thanks

A quality upholstery shop can do the job. I recommend transporting the top on the car. I transported a hard top to get it done on the trolley in the back of my truck. It made it without any damage but was far more stressful than it needed to be! The soft top headliner is going to do the same thing no matter how few the miles. Same with seat backs, door pockets, etc. . . The glue just eventually gives up the ghost. Fortunately, all are fairly easy to rectify.

The issue is finding a source for oem-matching material.

BMW Peter Pan has informed me that they can do the replacement of the Z8 hardtop headliner for a cost of $2186. I am considering but the cost seems high.

You can buy a complete liner (black or crema) from BMW parts

Don't forget to consider getting the rear window shelf with the same lining. It is a separate part.

Ted (Bend) - I had to look up what that is and I am a little confused where that goes and if it is an optional piece (did not know there were any). Maybe I am just a little sleepy…

    Hi Skip,
As I understand it, that shelf is attached to the hardtop to cover the retracted convertible top. It is covered with the same headliner material as the hardtop. The headliner material covering the shelf cannot be purchased separately. So that's another ~$600 to be considered during a headliner restoration for a hardtop.
    With regards,
    Ted
