    Center Console removal

I need to replace the latch for the center console on my car. The latch is broken and I have ordered a replacement. Could anyone guide me or post the relevant part of the repair manual.

    Thanks

I actually wrote a column about the difficulties of removing the console—how before you can do one thing, you have to do another thing. I know it starts with removing the phone-compartment tray. There is a large mass of molded foam below that; try very hard to ease it out in one piece. There's a weird stainless-steel rod connected to the latch (of the phone tray); it should snap out of its plastic holder. The back end of it is held to something—maybe the console?—by Torx screws.

There are two brackets secured by 6-mm bolts (10-mm wrench size). Of course, the boots of the shifter and e-brake handle must be carefully eased out of their positions—many plastic breakable clips. The console trim must be removed.

The radio assembly must be removed.

To reach the last two Phillips screws holding the front of the console, you have to remove the vents. To remove the vents, you have to remove the instrument cluster. To remove the instrument cluster, you have to pop loose the trim on both sides.

I'll see if I can find the relevant PDFs from the manual (not that they're all that much help) if you send me an e-mail:

Hello Yves, welcome to the "wonderful world of the Z8" :-) The part number of the push button is 51168249010 and it cost about 285 euro

Thank you Z-acht... ( nice nickname)
I will go to my dealer and see what they will ask.
I am also looking for the original book but the first owner doesn’t reply...

As your car is European spec you may have more luck contacting the German z8 Club at www.z8-club.de trying to locate the original owner. Not sure what kind of registry they have or what they can share if they have data.

Have you found that info, or the column you wrote? My mechanic is about to embark on a journey of removing the center console in order to replace the console trim, the seat heating switches and the radio cover assembly.

I know that this is an old thread, but the locking assembly mechanism in one of my Z8 decided to stop working and I can order the part, but reading Satch’s note, it seems like a could break a few things trying to replace the part. Has anyone tried this recently or have a copy of Satch’s instructions? Thanks
