I'm admittedly a Ford/Shelby guy who can do a PPI for a '65 or 66 GT350 quite easily but when it comes to these BMWs I'm a total newb. I'm good at listening, I'm good with cars, and I'm good with a camera. I am going to help my friend sell his Alpina and I have ONE chance to photo-document everything there is to know for a potential buyer. I'm also meeting with the original owner who was the last one to drive this car. It is just over 100K miles, but not running and has a dead battery. The engine hasn't run in 11 months or so. I posted here a while back that it had more miles, but I was mistaken. Any way to verify the mileage without a battery? The car has been in inside climate controlled storage for months. It was a daily driver until it simply no longer would run. Again, I have access to the original owner so I can ask him anything I want.
Can anybody help me determine what information I need to find out, and what to document? I've heard stories of quarter tests and shock tower failures but have no idea if any of this is relevant to a high mileage driver or how to evaluate them. Keep in mind, the battery is dead and we can't even open the trunk to service it. I think there is a way through the back seat so I will try that. Is there a special battery needed to at least get the accessories on and or odometer to illuminate? We tried to hook up a portable battery charger to the terminal we found under the hood but it did nothing.
Thanks!
