Real Individual or not ? https://www.autogespot.nl/bmw-z8/2018/08/04
It’s me.)) (Former Andrew’s car)
It is not an individual. It is a Topaz/Crema. But I did a wrap (individual style) just for the Gumball 3000 rally.
I’ll send Andrew some more photos to post.
What a great idea! I really think both colors match perfectly! Congrats.
I do agree with you. I’m fully in love with the way it looks.
I’m planning on redoing the same wrap, but in a proper high quality wrap as soon as the car returns from the rally.
Are those two cars Individual? https://www.autogespot.be/nl/bmw-z8-2/2019/08/21 (the headrests are red) https://m.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/detail...utm_medium=ios(the doors and the back of the seats for instance are not red but black).
Hi Ben, no Individual, merely a "change" of doorcards and headrests. Sometimes a cheap and easy solution for a damaged leather part or just "taste" ;-)

Ok. I like the red interior with less red and more black in it. Just like the crema interior is a bit too crema for me.

Great pictures, Ton!
Just found 2 new pictures of one of the Midnight Blue on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B56DDxNBM7K/ Gorgeous!
Beautiful, never heard of these. How many were made? Andrew, was this like Evies car? Don’t remember “midnight blue” Arizona leather?
Z8 is a stunner in any/every color. True sign of a classic design.
I thought it was 1 of 1?
boy, if it had a red interior 😍
2000 Red over black
heavily modified for performance. Although, not to the level of GM's car
Ian, yes, that's the same as Evie's car, which as you remember really wasn't that attractive in the flesh. The Blue was too dark and the Arizona Sun too diarrhea.
2112, five of them were made in those colors for the Canadian market, so it's a one of five, all of which had US VIN's, and there were also 6 US VIN Alpina Blue and Crema Alpinas imported into Canada at the same time.
There's a bunch of shots of Evie's old car in the old Gallery here - https://www.bmwz8.us/galleryclr.php?...ID=1209&page=5
(she sold it a couple of years back, and promised to donate something to the site for all the help I'd given her with it, but never did. I guess that's what you get from a girl with a crappy interior!)

Ha! No accounting for taste! Old Aston almond green was what I always wanted. Perhaps with something darker than crema, but definitely not Arizona. More bomber jacket brown... with all the distressing! Or maybe Bordeaux.
Evie's car is in the Netherlands now.

Thanks Ton, that's fun to know, and Ian, absolutely, I remember seeing that gorgeous early racing Aston with you at the Historics at Laguna Seca. That color with a faded camel-nut brown interior would have been awesome on the Z8, and I always thought that the Shelby-Brooks Daytona blue with its deep metal flake would have really accentuated the lines of the Z8 too.

Andrew, I seem to recall that there was one more of those Midnight/Arizona cars originally built for Mario Theisen then head of Motorsports. In fact, I seem to remember that was the inspiration for the Canadian cars. Does that ring true?

I know that Mario Theisen had a Z8, but I don't remember the rest of the story, but I also don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, so I'd say if it's in your memory then it made enough of an impression to remain there, so it must be so.
I do remember that the chap who ordered the cars while he was at BMW Canada (Manfred I think it was?) vanished without a trace and seemingly under something of a cloud. I tried to reach him to do an interview for the site about those cars, but in trying I uncovered the story of his departure and discovered he wasn't considered a hero by BMW AG. That said he did leave a rare marker of his presence with those interestingly colored cars with US VINs.

Just found this interior on instagram:
Wow! 😳 Must have been a labor of love.

Funny thing is that white is the most popular car color in the US now, and also classically Germany's national racing color, so it would have made sense to have had a white Z8, but not with a white dash!

Nice hand position, however. Particularly cool in an F150. I had dinner with Dr. Theisen (one S or two?) in Indianapolis at the Formula 1 race (which makes it 2007, I think). I asked him to name his favorite BMW. "My Z8," he said with no hesitation whatsoever. Mind you, this was years before I even imagined owning an "M5 roadster."
I bought a 1:43 scale model of the white "Safety Car". It says it was built for the 2001 Motorcycle World Championship. I have about a dozen different metal models of Z8s. And a 507. Memorabilia for the Z8 is fun to collect. Always looking for more if you have something available.
I didn’t want to create a new thread for this picture so I post it here. Too funny not to share it!
I wouldn't want to do that to my car, but it's certainly great to see the car getting used and enjoyed! What is that he's carrying, I'm guessing it's some kind of hang glider?
Andrew Macpherson

It's pretty small to be a sail, and if you carried it without a boat I'd think it would be in a sail bag not attached to a mast?
That, and the fact this it's pretty full time car-carrying rig was how I arrived at my guess of a hang glider.
My curiosity also got me to do a quick search, and I think the evidence is clear.....

This thread has lost it's focus on "What's My Color". Would be great to get on the right track. Andrew - maybe even move the general discussion posts elsewhere?

What do you mean - Satch? Eeew what? Can you please explain? I am sorry if I disgusted you. This site has always been professional and focused to the point with incredible valuable information and data and the threads have been focused on the topic of the thread. A few have lost their focus and in my opinion it would be great if we could get back on the right track at least the way I have always appreciated it. Again, I am very sorry if my comment disgusted you.

It always surprised me they didn't offer a white when it has such a history as Germany's racing livery.

Did any of the "individual" cars come in non standard colors?
2000 Red over black
heavily modified for performance. Although, not to the level of GM's car
Yes, absolutely, though not as many as you'd expect. I think by memory there were around 150 individual cars. I've seen a few, Metallic Black, Midnight Blue Metallic and the Alpina Blue are the three most 'common' ones, and then there's the handful of two toned cars they made.
I've never seen any totally wild individual cars, always hoped I'd see a British Racing Green with Saddle interior, or a Metallic White with Blue leather interior, but most all the individual cars had pretty subtle and rather minimal tweaks.

Rather unique customization of the interior. What appears to be faux ostrich hide covering part but not all of the dash, with the uncovered portion black plastic when it should be silver plastic. And some sort of wood or wood-like material covering the rim of the steering wheel. Different strokes for different folks......
Love the all-red seats but yeah, the dash and wheel are pure JC Whitney.

I also found this champagne Z8 on instagram but can't find the link anymore. It's probably a wrap.
I don't hate either of these colors. Sort of a shame BMW didn't offer a wider palette of colors on the Z8 (not that I am unhappy with red!)
I really like both of those colors (metallic red and gold)

Hi Andrew
Congratulations to all the members of this forum on an incredible resource and seemingly bottomless reservoir of knowledge. I have been an original owner for 19 years but have only just signed up as a member, and I dont seem to have full access rights as yet, including voting here on the colour poll.
I have a 2001 Topaz/Red Leather UK Spec which I ordered in August 2000 for delivery to UK in March 2001. The car moved with us to France in 2006 and returned to UK in 2011, when I had it converted to RHD at the same time fitting the Alpina suspension. In a few months it will board a ship for Sydney, Australia. Could you please log my vote in the colour poll, if thats feasible, and I look forward to becoming an active participant in this truly great Forum.
Jim

Hi Peter,
Great news, we can form a RHD Z8 forum, we just doubled our membership!! I hope you are doing OK there in Victoria.

I seem to have just acquired voting ability, so I have logged my Topaz/Red in the tally.

Welcome, Jim! Yes, please share pictures of your rare topaz/red. Thanks!
Thanks Jim. All good here, our stage 4 restrictions has just eased. Woo hoo ... golf, hairdressing and travel distance up to 25km (previously 5km) are now good to go. Active cases are dropping, 14 days average around 7.5.
Looking forward to see some RHD pictures of your Topaz/Red. Cheers
Andrew, (or anyone who can help)
I have recently joined the board and believe I have completed as much profile info as possible. Do I need some action from admin to allow me to access the rest of the site, add photos, create an avatar etc?
Thanks,
Jim
