I seem to recall Bangle talking about a development car in the red that is now behind locked doors.

I seem to remember J?rgen saying that only one Criollorot was produced in the original pre-production batch of test cars, and the color was rejected by whoever was the person in charge was because it wasn't considered to be in the 507 spirit. I think all of those pre-production testbed cars were destroyed as they were completely pulled apart for wear inspection after the testing. Once broken apart they were never reassembled and the parts were just scrapped if I remember the story right.

I think we've seen most of what BMW has tucked away in the vaults by now, but I do know that there are some Z8 secrets that are never to be told.

I love these little videos, but I cringe at how little the salespeople know about the car. Also I hope those seat belt inserts are less faded in real life than the video. Probably are not faded, unless the Porsche shown in the background is really pink.

I still think getting the HRE Z8 replica rims in 19's would be the best thing of all, and also shouldn't really require changing the suspension, but that said once you've gone Alpina you'd never go back!

Note taken many months ago. I'm just not willing to risk the frame with the bigger wheels, at least not unless I do the full suspension first.

I really like my Full Stage 3 Dinan Suspenion set up (which has the OEM Sachs Struts / shocks combined with the Dinan Springs, Caster Plates, and Sways). It really has settled in and handles great.

55K miles (original) with 20" Beyern wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires and no frame damage.

Only thing I wonder is what effect (if any) would the Alpina Struts / shocks have with the Dinan Suspension? Some folks recommend replacing struts and shocks every 50-60K miles so considering putting the Alpina Struts / shocks with the Dinan, comments ?

He chose to black out the bottom skirts ala Ferrari of the 70's and 80's. I like it but don't want it on my Red car.

The 575 SuperAmerica shown right after is one of the few recent Ferraris I really like. It doesn't look like the angry insect spaceships they are fond of producing now.

If you're going to do a two-tone paint scheme, don't use the body panel seems as the separating lines. Sure, they're an easy break, but they're not there to emphasize. There should be some sort of law...

How can we tell it's not an Alpina? No red Alpinas? I never really thought of that.

An easy dead giveaway is the mirrors. If they are painted body color, it's an Alpina. If they are chrome color, it's a Z8.

Definately an Alpina. You can see the little pod on the dash behind the steering wheel that displays what gear you are in.

No, Exactly all three. Angry insect looking spaceship. Incidentally the look was started in Japan and now has invaded Maranello. (there was a time I thought Pinin Farina could do no wrong)

I believe all the Z8 colors were available for European ALPINAs, plus ALPINA Blue. They restricted the color to silver or black for US ALPINAS.

I would bet that is still Topaz Z8 with it just looking darker due to the shadows of he buildings and exposure. But not an alpina (mirrors and wheels). I thought there were only 4 Midnight Blue made, all with the Aztec brown interior and all in Canada.

Midnight Blue was an Individual color and by best info Andrew got from BMW with all with the Aztec Brown ( actually looks orangey) and all ordered to Canada by the same dealer. You can see one in Andrews photos from Pebble Beach from 2008.

I'll say it.....I am looking forward to the Matte black and "murdered out" look to run it's course and go away.

IMHO, Sorry if anyone here is into this. It just hides the beauty of the design. Again IMHO.

Perhaps it's the far-zoom/motion-effect. I agree that up close the Motorsport rims are better looking.

To my eye, the Motorsport wheels bring a retro look that fits the Z8 perfectly. Too bad they are so damn heavy.

to my eye, the 20" Alpina Wheels generally look OK to me but honestly, on that Red, all you see is a wheel !! Looks way too out of proportion when combined with the red and IMHO, does not look right. Maybe it is just the full on side shot, which is not that complimentary to most wheels but most of the time, 20" rims look acceptable but those in that side view just don't do it for me.

I agree about the 20" Motorsports do look good and they look fantastic on the Z8 in just about all of the colors, including Red. First time I saw those wheels what on ///MBlitz Red Z8 and they look fantastic so I would opt for those if I ever decide to change from what I have.

To clarify, Is the Motorsport wheel you are discussing different from the wheel Rifle and others have?

Rifle has M5 wheels, which are Motorsports but the 20" Motorsports I am referencing are the one like pictured on Andrew's (look on his Avatar above for a quick look or in the wheel section). These are period correct from the same year 7 series and were optional equipment on that model but are made by Motorsport Division (and have that little M badge on the wheel) and have the same sizes and offset as the OEM 18" Z8 wheel (and the Alpina 20") so fit perfectly. They are a 2 piece wheel and have bolts showing to the outside and are a mesh design. They are called the M Cross Spoke Style 101.

Different strokes...I think those are awful. With the wheels, mirrors, seats, splitter, etc. it just doesn't make sense to me. If you want a car that confirms to contemporary design trends, get one. Don't try to retrofit all that on a classic design.

Cleaning old files on my computer, I came across this photo of a red Alpina. As I recall I found this on another car forum in a post about the Sultan of Brunei. The sultan has about 5000 cars. I guess it's good to be king!

Look closely and you can see the Alpina crest on the seats as well as the Alpina number plate between the seats.

    Ugh,

There was a white widebody from Japan that was done spectacularly. This one makes my eyes hurt.

This example supports the case that the manufacturer should only sell the right to use the vehicle. If you aren't a good steward, they take it back.

A very interesting color combo from Saudi Arabia. The colors are a little out of balance in the photo but it looks like a silver-blue exterior color with red/black interior.

Interesting color. Probably a re-spray. Might be nice with a silver or cream or burgundy interior. Need to get an idea with the top off.

could it be a badly faded photo of Alpina Blue? It is an Alpina. The hue is right. Just a quick levels and Saturation adjustment. Like this... It does also appear to have red leather on the dash.

Yep, they are the best wheels for the Z8 IMHO.

Looks like EAS is in Anaheim, CA. It was serviced there and someone posted pictures.

I do like the two tone EU tail lamps, they make the lights look even more slit like and speedier, and of course those are my favorite wheels!

That's my car. I took it to EAS the day before the Cambria trip to have the old DICE replaced with the new one in order to be able to use my iPhone 4S (wife got to have her Pandora).

The wheel centers are powder coated pewter, which makes them look better on the red car.
