Your experience with color shifting with digital photographs is obviously way greater than mine but that light blue was not one of the Alpina choices. When looking closely, the floor mats are a blue between the blue seats and the horn (which actually looks purple). The other photo of the extras looks like even more colors of blue. I can not imagine anyone having so many shades of blue and can not help think it is all lighting / white balance (flash in some, florescent in others) which can really give me some weird color results if the white balance is not properly adjusted.

If that many colors are truly present, definitely a thumbs down at that price although you would have a one of kind for sure !!

Just too many shades of blue that don't quite match but I love the Alpina blue exterior color! If that color was available in the US it would have been my first color choice.

The blue on the seat panels reads similar to the alcantra that is on a few of the EU Alpina Roadsters. I could see Alpina putting this mad combo together, particularly on customer request.

Look carefully... it's dark green! Saw this one at mobile.de. It's just listed as green metallic.

    Soft top color

Anyone know the story on soft top colors? Was there a choice? I saw this in an ad recently.

  7. #157
That was the only option, but over the years I have seen very few in that color.

I do love that color. There may be one or two in North America, if I recall.

  10. #160
Six were imported to Canada in that color, and one we know of came to the US, a lucky buyer here got it from EBay for only 115k

The odd thing is that top shot of the two you posted was taken in Trafalgar Square in London, not the place I'd expect to see an Alpina Blue at all!

I took a moment to look at Mobile.de again today, and saw that the crazy Pumpkin car is back for sale again, or maybe its been for sale ever since it was last listed all the way back here.

That is still very cool in a sick kind of way! The cheapest car listed on that site looks like a metallic black and crema at 74k euros. What's the story on the metallic black? Individual?

  13. #163
I'm not sure if they were Individual cars or not, certainly the brown interiored one a few above was. The one that is also shown in the thread that was at the 10 year bash in Munich was just a regualer production car with nothing to indicate it was an BMW Individual car. I'm actually not sure if the ones that went through BMW Individual carry any sort of identification or not, maybe J?rgen knows?

The individual Z8s only have a sticker "Individual" near the paint sticker on the strut tower under the hood.

This one looks similar to the pumpkin car above... but a bit more subtle. It's interesting. It would have been really interesting if BMW gave us some bold color choices.

  17. #167
I would bet that it is this car, but the plates show it has not only changed ownership, but changed country too. The original plate is a Paris plate (French plates ending in 75) but the new plate looks like a BeNeLux plate.

This new plate is actually the new French plate, the format has changed (European format): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle...ates_of_France Unfortunately, the D?partement number is not visible on the pictures, but chances are it's the same car :-)

I used to be so pro the 'Commo Market' as they called it when I was a kid, but now I hate the way the EEC is homogenizing everything, taking the characther and soul out of the member countries individuality without any say of their populations. The EU has become a hideous dictatorship of bureaucrates, that has stolen the right of soverignty and free choice from all the member countries. Now I can't see it as being anything but a part of the banking mafias New World Order nightmare.

    Red Z8s

I just realized... all red cars have a black upper dash and other interior hard panels? This would be the only color car where these interior panels do not match the exterior color (other than the darker silver on the silver cars, which is subtle). Makes for a very different look/experience, especially with an all black interior. Anyone know of a good interior shot of a red car with solid crema?

  21. #171
The Red/Black interior on the red cars is actually stunning, I loved it when I drove Tony's last year, so much so that if I was to but another Z8 it would be my secong choice over the Stratus/Red, which I still think is my favorite interior of all.

What is odd is that after all these years I don't seem to have a shot in the Gallery of a Red/Creama showing the interior, but here is a screenshot of how it would look taken from the original BMW Flash site. As you can see the interior is identical to yours, but I'd repaint the interior bits red if it was up to me.

Agreed... but, the photo below is not identical to mine. Mine has black leather on the dash-top and the wrap around on the top of the doors. Don't think I've seen one like the one below? And also, all convertible-top covers are usually the interior color, but not always, cars with the sport interior get black covers. Solid crema interiors get crema. I've been thinking of changing mine to black.

Also: Just noticed the red car in the photo doesn't have the lower door pockets painted either.

The Red w/ Black/Red is one of my favorite combos. Actually, I really like the Z8 red as it's nothing like any other red on the road. It's softer with maybe a smidgen of blue in it. It's more luxurious than shouty.

One of Andrew's great galleries with a Red car. It's also one of the few combos that works well with the chrome wheels.

I got nothing but positive reaction from people when I had the red with red/black. Having had both, I tend to like the more modest full black interior a little better.

I really like the all black on the red car too. The outside is loud enough, so it needs less flash on the inside.

The black works really well too, but I'd like at least a bit of an accent in the interior - red stitching or piping would be a nice addition.

I was curious about the same as I thought your original red 507 mod was a bit too strong as it was only the three elements, isolated in a sea of black. Doing the seat bottoms/backs and lower doors, definitely helps bring it all together, but it's still a little too bold from a surface area of shiny red for me. I'd bet the red surrounding the gauges would be visually exhausting on the road.

A fun exercise. Might try some other "negative" combinations. Crema plastic with topaz leather?

It might be fun to paint my seat backs red.

It really is rather nice, I guess the biggest concern would be the red reflection in the screen.

White! I saw this on mobile.de. It's described as a silver car so I'm assuming it's a white wrap. I sort of like it in white.

Thats nice. I find the only white cars I like are the ones with enough design input and character to enhance or offset. The Z8 is a good choice for white.

I saw this on the Z8 facebook page... it's wrapped in gulf livery. It's amazing what you can do with vinyl wraps. The job was done by a company in Germany named Cam Shaft. Their web site is filled with photos of their work.

    http://www.cam-shaft.de/de/galerie/index.pmode

There's also a short video of the car too...

I always had a thing for the Daytona Coupe, it is the blue I'd have really loved on a Z8, and if I was to pick up a beater again, and wrap it this would be one of my first ideas, the other of course would be a full chrome wrap.

I've heard that a complete wrap goes for about $3000 to $5000. I would assume multi-colors/stripes would be on the high side of that range or maybe more.

Here's a time lapse of a Ferrari 430 getiing wrapped:

Andrew, I see the pic is one of Brian Zuk's. Great kid and a total gear head. There is a video out there on utube of me taking him for his first ride in a Challenge Stradale. Great fun and such enthusiasm.

Thanks for that video too, pretty cool stuff. Looks like about the same process and time as the clear paint protection.

btw, when its all said and done, I much prefer the pearl white Scud in the background!

Wasn't sure where to post this as it's not a special color but those wheels look like the Alpina wheels from the new B7 - 21 inch!!!

  55. #205
Wow, they look massive and kind of cool in an odd way. I actually think they suit the Z8 better than the B7.

I'd suggest pop them up over in the Wheels and Tires section.

I agree they seem too big but also, look cool too, esp at the 1/4 angle. I would like to see a pic shot from the side to really see as like alot of wheels, they look good on the darker colors but not on silver.

If I had a black on black car, or solid black on red car, I would do the red dash. It would be easy to paint all the plastic bits. The wood wouldn't be so easy, but I do like the contrasting dash on a solid color car. Perhaps the wood on a tan or brown interior in a black car or deep blue? I also think I would skip doing the center console in color or wood, as it looks too 70s? The red like this?

And I might even love the Topaz/red even more.

The Alpina Blue/Red Alpina Z8 is my all time favorite color combo.

I'd trade mine in an instant for Alpina blue and red.

For me, either of the Blue on Red.

I have only seen Blue on red in Ferraris before these.

Well Adam Corolla built his Miura SV into a blue on red. I have always loved it. Had a boat custom built blue on red long ago.

Another Silver-Crema/Black, this time an '00, in Florida. A super rare combo, but not super pretty, at least in pictures.

I actually like the silver and crema (I would), but not with the sport style interior.

I had never seen one in green. What an amazing color!

That really is a great color, I'm guessing that is the same one that showed up for sale in post 154 of this thread almost a year ago.

I wonder if it's a genuine Individual car, a wrap or a respray?
