    Question Underhood Panel

There is a panel that separates the brake booster area from the engine compartment. It has the brake vacuum line going through it. Mine has some of the black 'fur' missing so I was looking for the part in the 'PDF of all parts' but after going through it carefully several times, I don't see it. Can anyone tell me what that part is?

Hi Hattat,No, don't see it in that one. It's under the hood, basically curving from the front fender to the firewall. David

You got it, Hattat, it's #3 in the upper diagram. Thanks! Now, is there a part number that goes with it?

2112--Here you go. Let me know any questions or advice.

I see in preview that the pictures are rotated 90 degrees but I don't see how to remove those pictures and fix. Let me know if these don't work for you.

thank you for the picture. I just wasn't connecting the line-drawing schematic with the part itself.

I would like to replace mine as well.

2112 and screenap, not hard to replace, a little tight quarters on the lower rear plastic nut if you do yourself. Norcal, no PP as I have only driven the car (or any Z8) 0.2 miles. So first once we get to spring I want to replace the run flats, and then drive it and see whether I think I am at risk. My experience with run flats is that they have no give at all, so I think that will quite make a difference.

I agree on the Run-Flats. Unforgiving is putting it politely.

Sigh. I wonder if the people criticizing run-flats have recent experience with them, as opposed to the first-gen tires available at the turn of the century. After three trips across the country—oh, wait, more like five if you count the runs to and from New Orleans—plus three round-trip drives to Monterey, I am still in love with my fourth(or fifth)-gen Bridgestone R50As, or whatever they are. Of course, they are beneath a European Alpina suspension (with H&R sways), so there's that. At this point I am still waiting for Michelin's ZP (for zero pressure) boots to appear in appropriate sizes. They don't market their run-flats because they are all original-equipment tires for various manufacturers, but they're out there.

My only run flat experience was with a 2010 760i which came with them, so not exactly turn of the century. Both rear tires failed within a year. The first time that one blew I believed you could actually 'run while flat' and you can, and in 20 miles at 50 or less it also destroyed the factory wheel. The second one I didn't drive on it and it still cracked the wheel. That was the end of run flats for me and although the 760 was a very soft riding car in the softest setting, it got even smoother. Now I drive an Alpina B6 and made sure it came with regular tires, which is a good idea because for the B6 if you get run flats it is limited to 155 MPH but with regular tires it will allegedly get to 200. Not that I'll ever know, but its nice to think about.

Heh. Officially, its top speed is a mere 198. Just wait for the B8!
