vzben, I'm not sure what your ultimate goal is, but it seems like you've been over-analyzing the Z8 market. If you like the car, buy one and enjoy it. Timing/predicting the market for these cars is a waste of precious time, IMHO.
My goal is to show that the Z8 market, like many other vehicles, is subject to speculation by some sellers who are willing to wait years and lie to make a profit. I think it's a shame because I've been a huge fan of this car since it was first introduced. I regret that this car has become unaffordable for many enthusiasts like me. Not everyone has 200,000 to devote to their passion. I understand that my approach bothers some, but if you are really a fan of this car as I am, you wouldn't care so much about its market value. I'm not saying that a Z8 is worthless, it's worth what buyers are willing to give, except that some sellers are blocking the market by asking exorbitant prices. I regret that speculators have started to take an interest in the car market because cars should only be a matter for enthusiasts.
I disagree with some of what you say. Speculators are unavoidable. Having said that, I think the Z8 is probably low on the list of car speculators. The Z8 is undervalued for what it is and what it represents. Most who buy or deal these cars are true enthusiasts (e.g., EAG, Marshal Goldman, and even our own Marty and Andrew who are big fans of the car and know it inside and out). Also short of a catastrophic socioeconomic collapse, it's unlikely that a well-maintained Z8 with clean history will drop below the original MSRP price. I guess what I am trying to say is that the valuation of a Z8 seems to be rooted much more in the uniqueness, beauty, and quality of the Z8 rather than market speculation -- think of the as the difference between the valuation of Nikola Car Company vs. a solid blue chip stock. One will keep giving you dividend and the other will wipe you out in a jiffy. Ask me how I know :-(
Perhaps the situation is different in Europe, but unlikely. I would say now is a great time to buy a Z8, enjoy it and rest assure that as far as cars go, you'll have a nice asset sitting in your car.
As a reference, there was a time (no so long ago, perhaps 1.5 decade in the past) you could buy a 507 for about $400K. The Z8 may very well be experiencing its version of that moment in time.
I am convinced that the American and European markets are completely different, mainly because of the anti-pollution standards applied throughout Europe. In Belgium, for example, the Z8, which has the Euro 3 standard, will no longer be allowed to circulate over half of the country's territory in 2025. So I think that many owners will sell their cars in the next few years because they won’t be allowed to drive it whenever they want. All the more so as these rules are becoming increasingly strict, except for ancestor cars, a status that the Z8 does not yet have (this will be the case from 2030 onwards).
As far as speculators are concerned, I am well aware that they cannot be avoided, I just regret that it is so.
