Well lessee. I've had it a little over a year and have put on about 4K miles. Not too bad since she only goes out in nice weather.

Mine is the daily driver except when there is snow on the ground (Des Moines, IA) when I drive the Boxster. Last winter I used the BMW almost every day as we hardly had any snow staying on the ground all winter.

    2002 - bought it new...

As another said...hard to classify my driving...use daily for some time in the winter months. I am a snow bird, so I put on less than 3,000 a year. I spend summers in WI, winters in FL, during summers a close friend takes it for a short drive once a month to keep things moving and functioning.

I have 18K miles on mine....what is interesting is that where I live in FL..USA...University Park Country Club....there are 3 Z8's!, with so few in the world that is amazing!

    Smile nearly daily driver

I use my Z8 nearly daily. Most of the miles were made with holidays, when I travel through Europe. Last moth I drove 4500 miles. I bought the car second hand from a business man who drove 30.000 miles in ten months. The car has now driven 70,000 miles (112,000 km,november 2006) without problems.

    Driving a lot

    TO RRZ8

That's the way to enjoy the car.
    A few questions;
Since you are probably the guy with more miles, (or Kilometers) and you state no problems.
Do you have a Performance package?
If you have it at what mileage has been installed?
After you install it did you hit some potholes?
Thank you, and keep enjoying the fabolous Z8

I bought my Topaz Blau Z8 new in October 2002 and now have 24,725 miles on it. I don't use it as a daily driver, but do occaisionaly take it to work, at least once a week for "exercise". My daily driver is a 1987 535i.

    February 27th 2008
I'm now up to 30,100 miles and use the car usually two days a week for commute to work (~19 miles one way). Many times I will also use my Z8 for weekend errands. It's just too fun to drive, especially with the top down, to leave it in the garrage.

    I'm a fair weather driver...and in Rochester

That means i don't get out often...I do about 1500 miles a year...translates into nearly being an every weekend driver from May to September and hibernate the rest of the year...best regards, Bern

    awesome picture Z8 Ros!!!

I bought mine new. I forgot to put that in the voting. Also Id say mine went from a DD to now more or less special occasions- I will put about 2500 miles a year on this because my attentions have been split among several nice vehicles. That said, the Z8 is very special and I think I will always feel this way and unless my life takes a very bad turn, I plan to keep this car "forever".

August 2008: Turned over 13,000 on the odo. I am driving her less than I would like to. Might have to take her up to Traverse City before the summer wanes....

Turned over 14,000 over Labor Day weekend. No Traverse City trip yet...dunno how I racked up the last 1000 miles! (Okay, maybe using her as a fair weather daily driver had something to do with it.)

Must admit, I would not trade the 9,000 miles of enjoyment since I acquired her in April 2005 for the increase in value as an uber low miles specimen.

Just shy of 16,000 today. Weather starting to turn. She got more use than usual this summer. Nearing time to tuck her away until next spring.

Passed 35000 on the ODO on June 4 2017.

2003 Z8 with currently nearly 47,000 miles, thanks to the incredible event in Monterey and Napa!!!! Overwhelming majority in the first 3 years, diminishing miles (and smiles ) since due to driving it less over time but the smiles generated a on the California trip more than made up for the lack of driving this past year..... drat, it makes me want to drive it more!!!!

2002 With 30,000 miles. Bought it 3/07 with about 25,000 miles. It is driven just about once a week except in the winter. It gets a bath after each drive as we live on a dirt road and quarter mile drive. That's right , if you want a view in Oregon from a mountain you'll prabably live on dirt road. The county hasn't paved a road in over 10 years so it is a lot of 3M invisible bra and 1st gear for 2.5 miles. The car's worth the slow few miles and so is the view. Take care, Edy and Erik

2002 Stratus/Red. Currently at 6,600 miles. Bought from the original owner in March, 08, with 5,200 miles on it. Monterey accounted for over 800 of the 1,400 miles I have put on it, but boy was it worth it. I intend to use is sparingly and put on about 1,000 miles per year.

    2002 car purchased 3/08 with 16787mi.
Just tucked away for winter with 17604mi.
    Miles driven this season, 817.
I drove it a bit more than expected this year beacause it was new and irresistable.
Suspect I will average about 500mi/yr from here on out.

As an aside, my 93 GTS was driven less than 100mi this year as a result of the Z8 purchase

I thought that a car especially the Z8 is for driving and enjoying. In october I drove 2500 miles in southern France on the most beautiful roads. The picture was taken on the Millau bridge with is higher than the Eiffeltower.

    Happy 10k!

Driving our cars is the perfect antidote to all the gloomy economic news, I just got home from a lovely 90 mile spin along the ridge of the Santa Monica range out to the ocean and back - boy do I love my Z8, it is such a driving dream, so many smiles with miles. 61888 is closing in on 11,000 miles now.

0037 is a special event car only. Finished up the year with 6700 (avg 850/yr) miles and purchased the car as the third owner. It arrived with 5700 miles on it. Longest trip was to Richmond VA this year for a car show (1st place) and then mostly week or weekend excursions for fun. Plan to keep the mileage low at this point, as it is an investment car at the moment and looking forward for the firesale Z8 that may come out of the recession - and then I will have 2! But really plan to have this car to the end - it is perfect. mix of exotic, fun, sexy, quick, fixable (relatively affordable exotic), parts, unique, and is just plain a CLASSIC. Best of breed I think for any roadster that has been released for the last 20 years.

Currently doing about 1500 a year but have clocked up 43k since I purchased it in 2001. Drive from London to Austria in winter via Munich BMW was fun. I think the Z8 is pretty much the only car in the world that could have kept me awake for the entire 18 hour return journey (on the way out I took it easy over 2 days).

Seventy degrees and blue skies meant a commute into NYC today with the top down, on the way I broke 10,000 miles on my 03 Alpina. This year I plan on a total of roughly 1,000 miles, all on clear blue sky days!

Rounding up 'aught9' with 8600 miles and I had a blast this year. Put about 2K miles on her this year and I am thinking that with the car being front loaded all these years with low, low miles that she is due for some long stretches. But the RPM limiter still gets me in 1st and 2nd!

Upgrade to the Dinan software package 1 and your rev limiter problem will go away. You get a few hundred more RPMs in each gear which will keep the limiters from cutting in.

You don't need to scream the motor in 1 & 2 to get the fastest getaways, you should be shifting up well before the redline so you hit third at around 4,500 rpm, thats the real slingshot right there.

You just became our official US high mileage tester! I know that a couple of the Z8 Club cars in the EU have clicked over 200,000 k's (around 125,000 miles) and they are going strong without any hint of a problem, so doing distance doesn't seem to hurt our cars at all.

The Z8 has exotic car panache with typical BMW (3 series) reliability. There are plenty of over 100K-mile e39 M5s rolling around and going strong.

I'm always surprised at how much attention the Z8 gets; maybe it's because I don't drive it enough (just turned 7K miles on the Nethercutt outing this past weekend). On the way home Saturday, in addition to causing severe whiplash to several unsuspecting drivers, I got the thumbs up from an older gentleman driving a newer Mercedes SL.

you should drive her more -- let her get out and "stretch the legs" as you only live once (I just turned 51,000 on the 10th Anniversary in Dallas event). Still, over the 7 years I have owned the Z8, that averages to just over 7k miles per year and a whole lot of fun. There are many Z8s in Europe with well over 150K km and going strong. If you plan on keeping it, IMHO, drive it rather than have a really nice Z8 for someone else to eventually enjoy after your gone. Life only goes around once!

...not to mention the S62 engine does not respond well to sitting for long periods of time. There are some critical seals and gaskets that need to be lubricated regularly. Lack of use can lead to some very costly repairs.

33,000, and counting on 'Our Car' 2002. It has started to rain here in Oregon and we live on 3 miles of dirt/rock road so 'Our Car' leaves it's den only sparingly until May. In the summer it is dry and dusty on the road so 'OC' gets a bath after every trip. They haven't paved a dirt road in this county in 15 years and we weren't moving and the Z8 was the only sports car that would do. We put a lot of 3M 'scotch tape' around the car before we drove it home. Only one 1mm scratch from rocks so far. Of course we drive 5 mph for the first and last 3 miles. It's fun to see how fast the pickups slow down when they see us driving down the dirt road. Often they come to a complete halt! So is the dirt road worth it? 70 acres of forest and a 300 mile horizontal view of 8 volcanic peaks of the Cascade mountains out our front yard. We'll continue to drive slow and give 'OC' his bathes. Take care and enjoy the ride. Edy and Erik

What a lovely car you've built Would love to one day see a picture of the entire car.

Do you have a special ritual for storing the car? How do you keep the fuel, seals, paint, liquids, and other parts of the car in top shape?

Have no pictures of the full car. Change fuel, fluids, etc., keep seals moist. Car is in climate controlled environment.

    Just reached 135.000 Km. !!!
My feeling: no words!! As more drive my Z8 more I love it.

Engine is running like a Swiss watch.

Following all the "problems" my Z8 had. Any important and any problem to solve them.

At the beginning my Z8 was called to make a radiator updating.
I had the soft hood small problem and replaced the wires system to solve it.
I had to replace the rear window.
I did install the BMW Z8 Performance Package at 100.000 Km. (only for precaution, my Z8, fortunately had no frame damage problem) and replaced the runflat tires.
    I'm currently using Dunlop.
I had the engine yelow indicator problem. Problem was solved only changing defective sensors.

I'm convinced that my Z8 can run for 130.000 Km more!!! Sure!

    Enjoy all your Z8!!

There is an E39 M5 here in the US that just reported in at 250,000 miles (almost 400,000k!) and it is running like a swiss watch with no problems either!

And for good measure Id replace the battery every 4-6 years. Better than being left stranded somewhere.
