We should watch this car closely to see what types of issues might arise -- hopefully none.

Thumbs up Miles on my Z8s

    2000 Z8 -> 57,000 miles, original owner, daily driver
2003 Alpina Z8 -> 29,500 miles, original owner, daily driver

No problems on the Alpina. Failed VANOS unit on the 2000 Z8 at around 50K miles.

Enjoyed every single mile I drove in these fabulous cars

86,500mi behind the wheel of a z8, total. Some kind of record? Anyone out there have more than that?

Edit: i looked below (I view posts upside down), Z8Ros is past 100,000mi last year.... Anyone higher than that? That's some serious seat time.

    Sad day,
I sold the car yesterday. She had 14,436 miles & is truly a beautiful specimen of a vanishing breed. Very mixed emotions as she was a beautifully sophisticated & fabulous ride & in great condition BUT given my repeated total & utter disgust & distrust w/Palm Beach Braman BMW, she's gone to north to a collector. Additionally & for the same reason I've sold my 2nd X5. How/why BMW/na can allow a dealer to operate in the manner these thieves do is beyond me so I've voted with my feet and pen.
That said, I want to thank you all but, especially Andrew for maintaining this wonderfully informative and friendly blog. GOOD JOB.
    Best,
    Jim

I just hit 32,000 km today - 20,000 miles in American. I've had the car since August 31, 2000. Mine may have been the first Z8 in WA (and maybe the west coast?). The owner of BMW Seattle had a party to unveil his 2 weeks after I had mine!

I have over 45,000 miles on my 2001 Silver/Black Z8 but only drive in good weather. Winter here in MI is not conducive for driving cars with this much power.

I also store my 2013 Mercedes Shadow Grey Matte SL550 in winter. Both are stored from November through March.

I will be attending the Crescent Classic in Eureka Springs. It is a Ferrari event that is sponsored by Ferrari of Denver. They limit it to 50 cars and while there are typically 40+ Italian vehicles anyone can attend which is how I will be there. Michelin tires sponsors a drive on Thursday and then on Friday we do a drive with a celebrity driver who this year is Brian Redman. The drives are through the Ozarks here in Arkansas. If you haven't made any drives here the roads are spectacular (think Tail of the Dragon for 300 miles a day) Saturday is a car show at Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville. I will post pictures. Last year I did it in my 1M.

That's pretty good considering that I split the driving between my Porsche originally the Boxster and now the 911 4S purchased in March of this year.

Thanks for the welcome I have been lurking around here for a few months. I have know Jerry from other forums. This is the only picture I have of my car right now on the computer. I have installed the Alpina Wheels, but still have the original wheels and tires stored.

Silver/Crema too, that's a super rare combo, I've yet to see or photograph one in that color.

Sadly we lost Jerry last year. For personal reasons he decided to minimize his online footprint, and withdrew from the forum. I'm not sure if he is still active on the Ferrari forums as I don't frequent them, but he is very missed here. If you bump into him please do pass on our regards.

I think, if you look at the title, this thread asks what year the car is, where you are in its descended lineage, and how many miles you drive it per year.

I've seen one of the 16 Silver/Crema Z8s produced that at that time was for sale in Southern California. A very striking color combination!

Likewise, if you have contact with Jerry give him my best too!

Sad to hear that Jerry had to leave the Board. He and I were vocal audiophiles. His was a cd based Meridian while mine is a more vinyl focused mixture of multiple manufacturers. He probably has gone more digital now, but if you see him tell him I recently bought an Auralic Vega DAC, and have been amazed at what it can do with upsampling CD's ripped to a hard drive as FLAC files and played via Audirvana Plus 2.0 loaded on a MacBook Pro, particularly with voices and guitars. Real magic happens when it is set to the lowest (meaning no) filter and the "exact" signal.

I lost all understanding of your post, Charles, once I passed Webcor and Victrola....

Perfectly understandable, Satch. I could not make heads or tails of it for years until an audio buddy gave me an external hard drive with his collection of 2000 albums, 193 artists and a 120 days worth of music. To simplify the process, plug usb from hard drive to computer. Access hard drive via something that sounds better than iTunes (Audirvana software at $74), plug another usb wire from computer into a box (digital to analog converter or DAC) that takes that computer's bits of digital data and translates it into something you can plug into your stereo (just like you would plug that Victrola in, but without a phono gain stage) so you can see and play the albums, by pushing "play" (just like iTunes). You can also buy litle USB DAC's that look like flash drive, except the non usb end of it contains a plug for earphones (eg an Audioquest Dragonfly USB DAC).

But I agree, you may not get any better than reel-to-reel tapes (played on newer versions of the Webcor) or a vinyl record (played on a newer turntable replacement for the Victrola). Jerry is fine with CD's and they are more more convenient than threading tapes or dropping phono needles. Alas, the computer stuff is even more convenient, replacing the drudge of having to open the jewel case and insert that CD in the CD player every time.
