Funny! Talk about expensive Cadillac taillights in $300k car yet BMW Z8 even worse.

I saw this article today and immediately thought about the Z8 taillight expense which actually exceeds these costs.

And for the expense you get some really sophisticated tech seemingly justifying the expense.

Yet, according to GM, while expensive, they are probably "bulletproof." Unlike the fragile neon Z8 lights.

BMW announced a purple color option on the new Z4 with an engine that can be tuned to make well over 500 horsepower in factory spec and we now know a manaul transmission MAY be installed and is going into the mechanically similar Supra.

But the way BMW NA has treated Z8 owners will have me NOT buying another BMW product. Thankfully there are lots of other choices for my car buying money. Too bad. I rather like the purpose. Shame on you BMW NA

Not sure about your expense analysis - the Cadillac taillights are $6100 and Z8 taillights are $2500. Less than half the price.

Sorry Mate, I think you are incorrect on both counts: First, the article states "A set" of taillights. That to me indicates they are stating if you have to replace the set, i.e., both taillight assemblies.

Second, I just got off the phone with BMW of Santa Monica. A price for one taillight for the Z8, with tax, is now $4919.66! That's nearly $10,000 for two lights!

I just bought a left rear taillight about a month ago. Checked the invoice, it was actually $2736. Bought it from Global Imports in Atlanta. Sounds like Santa Monica BMW is trying to rip off unsuspecting customers.

I just got off the phone with Global. They quoted $3420 plus tax plus shipping and insurance. So ~$8000 for a set of BMW Z8 taillights.....more expensive than the $300,000 car featuring incredibly advanced taillight systems.

Maybe [email protected] can come up with a solution for an LED retrofit that is more reasonable (as they did for the fogging headlights).

Are they like the LED conversions I've seen on Ebay? I don't think those look very nice Or does Sean do something different?

Lol, they quoted me a higher price initially too but luckily I have a good relationship with their parts guys. Regardless, we are splitting hairs and can all agree that the price is ridiculous. If you really want to have heart failure about parts prices, own a McLaren. Why I sold mine.

I am not sure, but my guess would be that LED conversion is the only viable (low cost) option. Just to be clear, I do not have any information about SW-Lights other than the fact that they have a method to clean and polish the fogging headlights for about $1150 https://www.sw-lights.com/product-pa...ration-service.

Many European owners who buy US versions convert the taillights and resell the US taillights on eBay.de: https://www.ebay.de/itm/195168383590 or https://www.ebay.de/itm/254816182175 + https://www.ebay.de/itm/204008296826 Maybe that's a cheaper option.

I guess you could have a friend or acquaintance who lives in Europe buy them and then ship them to you in the US.
